Numero Group excavates a never-before-released 1969 album from singer-songwriter Elyse Weinberg. The label describes the album’s sound: “Weinberg’s finger-picked acoustic is layered over distant drumming, while her gravel-pit voice evokes life, love, and mortality.” Neil Young, J.D. Souther, Nils Lofgren and Kenny Edwards all guest on this lost California-rock gem produced by Young’s longtime associate David Briggs.
Patti LuPone’s 1999 album returns to CD from Broadway Records. The intimate Matters of the Heart features the Broadway diva tackling an eclectic repertoire by Stephen Sondheim (“Not a Day Goes By”), Randy Newman (“Real Emotional Girl”), Rodgers and Hammerstein (“Hello, Young Lovers”), Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens (“Back to Before”) and others.
