Prince, Purple Rain: Music from the Motion Picture (various formats) (Warner Bros.)
At long, long last – a deluxe, expanded Purple Rain arrives in various formats, including a 2-CD iteration with 11 previously unreleased outtakes and a 3-CD/1-DVD version adding a third CD of 15 single edits and remixes and a DVD of 1985’s Prince and the Revolution Live! film. All versions, including a standalone LP, utilize the 2015 Paisley Park remaster approved by Prince before his untimely death. Neil Young’s seminal Decade – his 1977 triple-album retrospective – returns to CD in remastered form as a 2-CD set. The 140-gram 3-LP version, previously available only as a Record Store Day exclusive, will also be available to general retail.
Radiohead, OKNOTOK 1997 2017 (XL Recordings)
OKNOTOK 1997-2017 celebrates Radiohead’s first U.K. No. 1 album, cited by many as one of the greatest albums of its era, with an all-new remaster from the original analog tapes and a bonus disc compiling eight remastered B-sides and three previously unreleased tracks from the album sessions: “I Promise,” “Man of War” and “Lift.” The set will be available as a 2CD or 3LP set. A box set version takes the three LPs and adds a C90 cassette featuring demos and session takes compiled by the band, and three books!That box will ship on July 21, but digital downloads will be available on release date (with the cassette contents also included for download within the box). Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach, Painted from Memory (Mobile Fidelity)
Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach’s acclaimed, Grammy Award-winning 1998 collaborative album Painted from Memory gets the audiophile treatment from Mobile Fidelity. A first-time-on-vinyl LP is available now, and a hybrid stereo SACD edition (playable in all CD players) is on the way, though no Amazon links are yet available for that edition.
Omnivore has remastered and expanded the legendary beat poet’s 1970 MGM Records album for this new 2-CD edition, featuring the original LP (featuring his melodies to English Romantic poet William Blake’s words) and bonus tracks on Disc One, and an entire complement of rarities and previously unissued songs on Disc Two. Musicians include such jazz legends as Don Cherry, Elvin Jones, and Bob Dorough. Omnivore’s deluxe edition features new liner notes by compilation producer Pat Thomas in a 20-page color booklet, and Michael Graves has remastered all tracks (including eight previously unreleased selections)!
Disney rounds up Star Lord’s favorite tracks from Marvel Studios’ music-filled sequel to the 2014 blockbuster for a cassette release! This time out, the accompanying Awesome Mix soundtrack of ’60s and ’70s classics features Fleetwood Mac, Glen Campbell, George Harrison, Cheap Trick, Jay and the Americans, Looking Glass, and more! FYE and Urban Outfitters are expected to have versions with exclusive artwork!
Roots rocker and singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Willie Nile straps on his acoustic guitar and joins his smokin’ band for a new 10-song tribute to the recent Nobel laureate Bob Dylan. Tracks on this lively and deeply-felt set include “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Abandoned Love,” “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” “Rainy Day Women # 12 & 35” and more…Everybody must get stoned!
