Today's the day when we can finally share Dionne Warwick's Make It Easy on Yourself: The Scepter Recordings 1962-1971 with our readers! Though today is the official release date and copies should be shipping within the U.K., Amazon U.S. currently shows August 15 as the release date stateside. To our American friends, we hope you will find this set worth the wait! Here are the full details on this release.
"I am so very thrilled about this wonderful collection of my recordings! It is truly something that I myself would buy." - Dionne Warwick, 2025
For more than six decades, Dionne Warwick has been synonymous with musical excellence. The six-time Grammy Award winner, 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and Kennedy Center Honoree remains one of the most-charted vocalists of all time, with a whopping 56 singles having made the Billboard Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998 and over 100 million records sold worldwide. The New Jersey-born legend became the first black female solo recording artist in the mid-'60s to achieve international breakthrough success (in particular in the U.K. and Europe) with her elegant and distinctive blend of pop and soul, resulting in timeless classics such as "Walk on By," "I Say a Little Prayer," "Alfie" "Don't Make Me Over," and her original version of "Anyone Who Had A Heart." Dionne is making music on the concert stage and in the studio today, building on the extraordinary career that first began at the feisty New York independent label Scepter Records. Now, the remarkable body of work created by Dionne at Scepter in tandem with the songwriting-production team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David is receiving its most comprehensive collection ever.
SoulMusic Records and Second Disc Records are proud to present Dionne Warwick's Make It Easy on Yourself: The Scepter Recordings 1962-1971, a 12CD box set with 280 tracks encompassing every original Scepter album and single release plus over 60 rare bonus tracks - 16 of which are previously unreleased (both in the studio and in concert) - for a total of over 14 hours of music.
Housed in a lavish slipcase, Make It Easy on Yourself: The Scepter Recordings 1962-1971 includes the following albums in their original stereo presentations:
- PRESENTING DIONNE WARWICK (1963);
- ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART (1964);
- MAKE WAY FOR DIONNE WARWICK (1964);
- THE SENSITIVE SOUND OF DIONNE WARWICK (1965);
- HERE I AM (1965);
- HERE WHERE THERE IS LOVE (1965);
- DIONNE WARWICK IN PARIS (1966);
- ON STAGE & IN THE MOVIES (1967);
- THE WINDOWS OF THE WORLD (1967);
- VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (1968);
- THE MAGIC OF BELIEVING (1968);
- PROMISES, PROMISES (1968);
- SOULFUL (1969);
- I'LL NEVER FALL IN LOVE AGAIN (1970);
- VERY DIONNE (1970);
- THE DIONNE WARWICKE STORY: A DECADE OF GOLD (1971); and
- FROM WITHIN (1972).
Additionally, the exclusive bonus disc ALWAYS SOMETHING THERE: LIVE & STUDIO GEMS FROM THE SCEPTER VAULTS boasts 25 rarities from the superstar. This disc premieres a lost 1969 concert from Washington, DC as well as never-before-heard alternate takes of "Don't Say I Didn't Tell You So," "Who Gets the Guy," "Walk the Way You Talk," "We've Only Just Begun," and more. This disc also presents the long-awaited CD debuts of the film soundtrack versions of "He's Moving On" and "Amanda" from the film The Love Machine (as well as the unique single versions of both songs); and Dionne's rare duet of Bacharach and David's "Try to See It My Way" with Tony Award winner and Deadpool and Wolverine star Leslie Uggams.
While the songs of Bacharach and David including the Grammy-winning "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" and I'll Never Fall in Love Again" form the cornerstone of Warwick's Scepter discography, this set also shines a spotlight on the remarkable string of concept albums in which she brought her own stamp to the songs of Broadway and Hollywood (On Stage and in the Movies), the gospel songbook (The Magic of Believing), and the contemporary R&B repertoire (Soulful). Among the 60+ bonus tracks spread across the 12 discs of Make It Easy on Yourself are additional, previously unreleased live performances from Dionne's landmark 1966 concerts at the Paris Olympia. Her complete 1970 Garden State Arts Center concert has also been fully restored with previously unavailable material as part of the expanded Decade of Gold. The numerous alternate takes throughout offer fresh insight into Warwick's recording process with Bacharach and David.
This set has been produced by Joe Marchese (of The Second Disc) and Jim Pierson, and executive-produced by The British Ambassador of Soul, David Nathan. The lavish 68-page booklet features a 12,000-word essay by Marchese, drawing on previously unpublished interviews with Dionne Warwick and the late Burt Bacharach. The booklet also features a moving personal reflection from Nathan, and an appreciation of Dionne's groundbreaking The Magic of Believing by gospel and soul historian Tim Dillinger of God's Music Is My Life. The booklet is copiously illustrated with numerous photos as well as album artwork. Each disc is housed within the slipcase in an individual wallet with detailed discographical annotations.
The box has been beautifully designed by John Sellards with an eye to period detail, and all tracks have been newly mastered for this collection by Nick Robbins. Make It Easy on Yourself: The Scepter Recordings 1962-1971 follows SoulMusic Records' previous pair of Dionne Warwick box sets, Sure Thing: The Warner Bros. Recordings 1972-1977 and Déjà Vu: The Arista Recordings 1979-1994, completing the label's definitive survey of Warwick's first three decades-plus of recording.
Produced with the cooperation of Miss Warwick, Make It Easy on Yourself: The Scepter Recordings 1962-1971 is the most comprehensive look to date at the recordings which form the foundation of the artist's remarkable and still-thriving career. You'll find the complete track listing and pre-order links below. TSD thanks our readers for your support; Amazon links are now available; as of this writing, pre-orders will arrive on the day of release! Make It Easy on Yourself is due June 27 from SoulMusic Records and Second Disc Records!

Release Round-Up: Week of August 1
NOW WITH LINKS! (Don't) Walk On By: Dionne Warwick's "Make It Easy on Yourself: The Scepter Recordings 1962-1971" Due in June on 12 CDs from SoulMusic, Second Disc
I don't even remember when I pre-ordered this set, they pushed it back several times. It came in the mail yesterday, and it's just excellent. A must for any Dionne Warwick fan.
Thanks, Jamie! So glad you're enjoying it.
I pre-ordered this thing again just now...have to compare tracklistings with the "Odds & Ends" Real Gone CD & that 4CD mono singles set...after this set comes, i will order that "Deja Vu" Arista set...Scepter comes first...i do have that Warner box, which is excellent...the only thing about this set that is offputting is the gospel album, which me being a devout atheist, which made me go 'oh no', but i guess, looking at the tracklisting & thinking of others who tackled it in such a way as not to be totally offensive...Elvis, Johnny Cash, Dylan...i can accept it as part of the big catalogue picture, but don't have to listen to it on its own...i saw "From Within" has gospel elements too...but this set is totally essential & i dig the packaging design...hard square outer box, inner drawer, discs in gatefold mini-LP cardboard wallets & thick booklet...the new Swing Out Sister box has the same design...and the price is fair...
All of the tracks on "Odds and Ends" are included on this collection. The Real Gone mono singles set is a wonderful companion to this set for those who prefer mono.
Thanks for this info, it' helps figure things out. I pray Real Gone will bring back that mono singles set at a reasonable price.
Congratulations to everyone involved, it looks amazing
Thanks, Gary!
All these rare tracks and yet Dionne's selections from the film soundtrack of Valley Of The Dolls are nowhere to be found. I've been wishing for a deluxe treatment for that sparkling soundtrack for a long time which includes the versions of all tracks from the film itself, perhaps some day! In the meantime, it'll probably take 3 days of comparing CDs to figure out which of the previous issues of these albums you'd no longer need if you got this collection.
Indeed, hopefully someday Dionne's film tracks for VALLEY will see the light of day. It hasn't been for lack of trying. Unfortunately, the reality is that since Disney acquired Fox, what was previously impossible (and had been for decades) is now nearly unthinkable. At least we have the beautiful Criterion Blu-ray.
DITTO Anthony! Big fan of "Valley of the Dolls" !!
I'm also a huge fan of the movie and especially of Andre Previn's gorgeous music. You'd think that the historical interest alone would be sufficient reason for 20th Century or whoever's calling the shots to have the actual film tracks released. After all, John Williams won his first Oscar for his lovely orchestrations and deservedly so! Not only could they included Dionne's unique contributions but they could also include Judy Garland's rendition of I'll Plant My Own Tree as well as the tracks Patty Duke recorded which were not used. These were different than the vastly inferior tracks included on Patty's own Valley Of The Dolls album on United Artists. My guess is that the entire film score and related recordings are nestled in the 20th vaults in pristine condition. I hope so!
YES! Those bonus tracks have appeared on other releases but I would buy again for them ALL to be on one release! Another Soundtrack I'd love would be "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane"...I made a handmade one years ago with all the incedental music from the DVD. It filled up a CD. SO Many films without Soundtracks! Fingers crossed and wallets open!
I ordered in April, but Amazon Germany tells me I have to wait until August 18th, d’oh. I’m so sure though it’ll be worth the wait!
Thank you for your patience!
This is such a great set! An embarrassment of riches really. Along with the other two boxsets, it gives a really good look at her overall discography as far as I can tell.
As someone that's fairly new to Dionne's work, what studio recordings are missing that I should seek out? I know her version of "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" wasn't included for instance (I'm assuming licensing issues). Curious what other songs are out there I should hear.
Dionne's version of "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" is on the 2-Cd 'The Best of James Bond 30th Anniversary Limited Edition" ...as well as the Shirley Bassey version. I wonder why they couldn't clear it for this Set ?
The track is controlled by MGM/Eon (now Amazon), and they're currently not accepting new licensees, especially for one track on one collection. It's a sad reality, but it's a business, after all. Happily, the track has long been available and while it's from the Scepter period, it is not a Scepter recording. We would have loved to include it, but I don't think its absence detracts from the collection as a whole.
Thanks for the kind words, Rob. Happily, we were able to include nearly everything (and I mean everything!) from the Scepter period including 67+ bonus tracks and a disc's worth of previously unreleased material. Other than "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," the only titles we couldn't license were the film vocals from "Valley of the Dolls" (which Disney now controls) and the impromptu Chuck Jackson duet "Anytime," which was recently issued on Ace Records. As none of these tracks were Dionne Warwick Scepter masters - the closest was "Anytime," which was recorded at a Jackson session for Scepter sister label Wand, with Dionne backing Chuck - they don't detract from the complete nature of the box set. Still, we would have loved to have them!
Thank you for the response! I'll check that stuff out. Again, this is such a fantastic boxset, you all should be proud. I wish all my favs discographies got this much love and attention.
Most sincere thanks, Rob. We appreciate that!
You have ALL the info on Dionne Joe, thanks for sharing! But this begs another question. Have Dionne's collaborations with Stevie Wonder for the soundtrack of The Woman In Red been collected anywhere besides the CD of the soundtrack? I know it's not Scepter era but are they included in any of those other label-encompassing collections?
Any idea when the Amazon US pre-orders will ship? I ordered mine back when it was announced in April, and they keep pushing the date back. The listing currently says August 15, but I haven’t received a shipping notice.
I am waiting too. Nothing from Amazon either in email nor money taken from bank. I hope it's before the Tariffs !
I’m in the same boat. My Amazon account just says “Order received” even though now it’s available for purchase on the site (with a guaranteed delivery to me on Aug. 23) I’m debating whether to cancel my old pre-order and try again?
I have no doubt it will be worth the wait, but I’m very disappointed in the shambolic release.
Unfortunately, the label has no control over Amazon's spotty distribution or practices; often, Amazon simply doesn't order enough copies to fulfill purchases in a timely fashion. Those of us involved in this project share your frustration and want this release to reach everybody as soon as is humanly possible. Please let us know when your copies arrive, and thanks for your patience.
I can confirm that copies are shipping to US residents, but I believe Amazon may not have ordered enough copies and so many of the pre-orders still haven't gone out yet. Rest assured that everybody involved with this release shares in your frustration. Please keep us posted here. Thanks for your patience.
UPDATE: My original pre-order through Amazon US last April shows that it was purchased from Amazon UK. Now the Amazon US listing shows that it is sold by MovieMars-CD. When I made my pre-order the price was $79.99, and then last week it dipped to $55.99. The current price is $66.39 + 3.99 shipping. I would cancel my original order and re-order, but if I do I will lose my pre-order lowest price guarantee. Still no shipping or delivery date . . . .
Got tired of waiting on Amazon and ordered from a seller on eBay. Very disappointed in the lack of Amazon communication when I pre-ordered back in April.
I just received an e-mail today from Amazon Canada, cancelling my pre-order from the beginning of June.
"Due to lack of availability, we will not be able to obtain the following items from your order. We've cancelled the items and apologize for the inconvenience."
I guess I will try to re-order through the UK sellers on the site.
Thanks for your tenacity, Francis. While we're thrilled that the set is doing so well that Amazon (un various countries!) can't seem to keep it in stock, we're genuinely troubled that fans such as yourself are having such a difficult time obtaining it! I hope it proves worth the wait.
