Sunny Days Indeed

February 3, 2010 By Mike Duquette 2 Comments

It may be snowing in my part of the world, but catalogue fans should prepare themselves to be on their way to where the air is sweet.

That's right, kids (and kids at heart): E1 Records is releasing Sesame Street Old School Volume 1, a box set collating three classic albums by the Sesame Street Muppets. The box features Sesame Street: The Original Cast Recording (1970), Big Bird Sings (1974) and Bert & Ernie Sing Along (1975), all of which are making their CD debuts with remastered sound and reproduced artwork from the original LPs.

Read the full press release, with release date, complete track listings and a stunningly low SRP, after the jump.

E1 MUSIC TO RELEASE SESAME STREET OLD SCHOOL VOL. 1, NEW REISSUE BOX SET, ON MARCH 23RD, 2010

Following the 40th birthday of Sesame Street, the world's largest informal educator of children, comes the CD box set Sesame Street Old School Vol. 1, on March 23rd, 2010. Sesame Street Old School Vol. 1 features three of the earliest Sesame Street albums, original art, and cast.

The package includes; The Original Cast Recording (first released in 1970), Big Bird Sings (1974) and Bert & Ernie Sing Along (1975) and has an SRP of $21.98. All albums have been fully remastered and will be available for the first time ever on CD. The Original Cast Album peaked at #23 on Billboard Top LPs chart in 1970, and was RIAA Gold Certified. The album won a Grammy Award for Best Recording for Children. Bert & Ernie Sing Along was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Recording for Children in 1975.

Sesame Street celebrated its 40th birthday on November 10, 2009, the exact day the series debuted on television four decades ago, and is the longest running preschool children's show. Produced by the non-profit educational organization, Sesame Workshop, the series' music has won critical acclaim since the show began. Ernie's "Rubber Duckie" song made #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1970, and Sesame Street has won 11 Grammy Awards, most recently for 2001 release Elmo and the Orchestra. Sesame Street has won a total of 122 Emmys Awards, more than any other program in the history of the Emmy competition, and was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Emmy.

I remember a Sesame Street singles box set when I was a kid.

I had the single "Up And Down" (can't remember the b-side) which was part of it..

I wonder if they'll release this somehow.
