They'll Be Compiled, in a Week or Two

June 30, 2010 By Mike Duquette 5 Comments

The a-ha reissue/compilation frenzy continues. The band's official Web site just announced another compilation from Rhino Records, just months after last compilation The Singles 1984-2004 got a domestic release.

This new set, 25, features two discs' worth of hits and favorite album tracks from every one of the band's albums, including the new farewell single "Butterfly, Butterfly (The Last Hurrah)." Pretty much everything that's on The Singles 1984-2004 (and reaching a bit further, the 1991 comp Headlines and Deadlines: The Hits of a-ha) can be found here, so if you've been waiting to get some sort of a-ha comp (and why have you been waiting? these guys are great), this might be the one to get. There's also a few rare single mixes and things for collectors too. (Speaking of collectors, the site also posted a photo gallery of the packages for the soon-to-ship deluxe editions of Hunting High and Low and Scoundrel Days.)

The set is due out in Norway on July 19 and should hit other markets "in the coming months." Hit the jump and take on another a-ha anthology.a-ha, 25 (Rhino, 2010)

Mike Duquette

Mike Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he was a teenager. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, holding positions at Legacy Recordings and Rhino Records and contributing to Allmusic, Discogs, City Pages, Ultimate Classic Rock and Mondo Records, for whom he penned liner notes for his favorite piece of music: John Williams' Oscar-winning score to 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with his wife, a cat named Ravioli, twin daughters and a large yet tasteful collection of music.

I'm excited about this release, despite the fact that I own every a-ha album, plus the Singles 84-94 compilation. There are some rare edits and single mixes on here, and it includes songs from the Universal albums as well. It's in glorious chronological order (not always a good thing, but in this case I think it is) and it includes the full-length version of The Sun Always Shines on TV rather than a dodgy edit. I'm also glad to see the single mix of Cozy Prisons, which was remixed by David Bascombe and is markedly different than the album version.

Here's hoping for some good photos and liner notes, as well!

Je suis très déçu d'apprendre que l'édition deluxe incluant un dvd ne retracent pas tous les clips de a-ha.
dans ce dvd il manquera les clips suivants: (j'ai vu le listing sur play.com)

    cosy prisons
    analogue
    celice
    forever not yours
    shadowside
    nothing is keeping you here
    foot of the mountain
    there's never a forever thing
    touchy
    you are the one
    cry wolf
the blod that moves the body
    etc...
