Our resident Beatles/Apple sage Phil Cohen noted The Second Disc that there was some preliminary info on the track lists for the upcoming Apple reissues. To quote him, from a comment on our Back Tracks post on previous issues of these albums (Part 2 is due very soon - we promise - and will cover previous reissues of all the other material on Apple, including The Beatles-oriented stuff):
Some preliminary info about the Apple releases is available via a link at The Beatles official website. There is cause for both celebration and dismay. No bonus tracks for James Taylor, Jackie Lomax, Modern Jazz Quartet & John Tavener. Undoubtedly, the previous edition of the Jackie Lomax CD (with 5 bonus tracks) will now become a costly collectors item. The other CD’s will have lots of bonus tracks(many previously unreleased or new to CD), BUT, there will be further bonus tracks(up to 6 of them on some albums) that will only be included in the download versions(audiophiles will be dismayed.)
There will also be a 21-track CD “Those Were The Days: The Best of Apple Records”, which will include some of Apple’s non-LP singles artists (Trash,Chris Hodge, The Sundown Playboys, Brute Force, Ronnie Spector & The Hot Chocolate Band) (Yes!), but only the A-sides (sigh!).
And the bluntly commercial Mickie Most-produced Mary Hopkin tracks (which Ms.Hopkin detests) are being purged from availability, so no more “Knock Knock Who’s There”, “Temma Harbour” or “Que Sera Sera”.
Apple apparently hasn’t learned from the mistake of sending the stereo versions of the first four Beatles albums into “exile” on bootleg CD’s for decades, so now some Mary Hopkin & Jackie Lomax tracks will go into a similar “exile”.
This was obviously some interesting news - and we have more to it. The Beatles' Web site links to what looks like a work-in-progress version of the Apple Records Web site (presumably the link Phil refers to). Under the "Albums" tag, there are images of all the reissues in question (not all cover art is there, particularly for the Modern Jazz Quartet/John Tavener two-fers and this new compilation). Click on each of them and you get what looks to be the preliminary track listings for each.
Or, you can hit the jump and see how the track lists look, all on one page. This story gets deeper and crazier with time, so keep it here for updates as they happen.

Joe Marchese says
As the Apple website is under construction, let's hope that some of this information is still tentative. But if not, the absence of bonus tracks on the Jackie Lomax reissue is mystifying. I guess I'll be holding onto the previous CD issue. The lack of bonuses for James Taylor's debut is less surprising but no less disappointing; one supposes Peter Asher's objections over bonus material on the first CD issue were voiced yet again. Unreleased Taylor material is among my most coveted material from the Apple era.
That said, the compilation looks swell, but I'm still crossing my fingers for a complete Apple singles collection that would round up those B-sides, too.
And am I the only one surprised that the titles being released aren't being sold as one Box of Apple? At a reasonable price (or comparable to what the Beatles sets went for), I'd most likely be among its buyers.
Just my two cents' worth for this morning. 🙂

Wow, that's actually really disappointing. They could release a CD's worth of all the digital-only Badfinger stuff--why not do a Badfinger box set with everything? And of course the Ass bonus track "Do You Mind" is an alternate version which means I'll still have to track down the original. Lame.
Looks like I'll never get the Lomax disc either. Oh well.
Anth says
And also...do they really think that the main audience for these reissues is download-centric? The target here are the most devoted of devoted Beatles fans for the most part. Had they put download-only bonus tracks on a Beatles release, the uproar would be huge.
Phil Cohen says
I have to compliment the compiling for the "Badfinger-Magic Christian Music" CD. You'll note that while the CD & online bonus tracks add all of the songs that were exclusive to "The Iveys-Maybe Tomorrow" album(I.E. those songs that weren't remixed/reworked/reprised for "Magic Christian Music"), in the new track line-up for "Magic Christian Music", those tracks are all being represented by different mixes, versions or edits than the ones on the "Maybe Tomorrow" CD, so, that, in fact, there is no overlap in mixes, edits or takes between the upcoming "Magic Christian Music" remaster and the existing(now-deleted) "Maybe Tomorrow" CD. This all suggests, that while there is no imminent plan to reissue the "Maybe Tomorrow" CD, that EMI & Apple are clearly leaving the door open to that possibility. Clearly, a lot of thought went into the compiling of the CD & online bonus tracks for the upcoming "Magic Christian Music" CD.
And those unreleased mono mixes of the tracks from the "Maybe Tomorrow" album may have audible musical differences versus the stereo mixes: the mono "Dear Angie"(released on a highly rare French Apple single, which I bought in London in 1992 for £70) has only a single-tracked lead vocal(versus the double-tracked lead vocal of the first & second stereo mixes)
Phil Cohen says
The Apple website has been reduced further, and now consists only of the introductory essay page, and no longer has the list of specific albums that will be included. I wonder if the entire reissue campaign(the selection of albums and the bonus tracks) has been taken back to the executive suite for a re-think.
Joe Marchese says
Yet another update: if one clicks on the "Continue Reading" link on the bottom of the essay at http://www.applerecords.com, the list of the 15 specific albums is still available. I suspect the other (unfinished) pages weren't meant to be viewed by the public, and the EMI team has been scrambling to hide/revise/finish them before making them viewable again. Looking forward as always to what's next in this ongoing Apple saga...
Phil Cohen says
Subsequent to my last post, the list of albums (underneath the introductory essay) became visible again.
