For casual buyers who didn't get swept up in Beatlemania with the massive remaster/reissue project last year, EMI will reissue The Beatles' 1962-1966 and 1967-1970, arguably two of the most recognizable compilations of The Fab Four in history.
Known to many as the "Red" and "Blue" albums, these double-disc sets provided a concise anthology of John, Paul, George and Ringo's hits and notable album sides. (We wouldn't be surprised if some of our younger readers cut their teeth on these sets.) While they're rendered completely irrelevant to anyone who snatched up the remasters in September, they'll probably do well enough to attract hardcore collectors and casual buyers in the weeks leading up to the Christmas rush.
The sets are due out October 19, a week prior to the Apple reissue series. Order them here and here and hit the jump for track info.

This is a waste of time. Instead of making this set interesting by utilizing vintage, unused mixes, or perhaps really stirring the pot and using modern remixes, they did what any of us who wanted these comps could have done - sequenced and burned cdrs sourced from the 2009 remasters. WHOOPEE. And if they are priced at 30 bucks a pop, they'll NEVER sell worth a damn.

The Blue set, though, does have the unsegued intro to "A Day In The Life", which you can't find on the remasters, IIRC. Just sayin'...

Too bad they didn't mix these in 5.1 and make them sacds.

A great shame that "The Beatles 1962-1966" is only 60 minutes of music across 2 CDs without any bonus tracks. Oh well.. these sets are for casual Beatles fans only.

As I recall, the Red set had some kind of orchestral introduction to "Help" - James Bond with a dash of Indian for flavor. I hope that is retained.

On the CD? Mine doesn't have that...
Eddie Scott says
The "Red Album" did have that brief intro to "Help!" on the original U.S. pressings of the album in the '70s. However, it wasn't used when "The Red Album" first appeard on CD in 1993 so it's doubtful that it will be used for the upcoming reissue in October (try "The Capitol Years Vol. 2" CD which has the instrumental music that was used in the movie "Help!").
