Legacy’s long-running Playlist series rolls on with another batch of titles to be released tomorrow, April 14. This wave of titles in the budget line range from rock to R&B to rap, and span from the late 1960s right up to the 2000s. As per the standard with this series, each entry is fourteen tracks and generally has some harder-to-find edits and track choices than are generally found on budget compilations. Following a description of each title kindly provided by our friend and founder Mike Duquette, you’ll find complete track listings and discographical information:
- Playlist: The Very Best of Ben Folds Five– explores the complete history of the beloved ‘90s alt-pop trio, including tracks from all four of their studio albums and rare live cuts, including vintage radio and television performances that have never been compiled before (Sessions At West 54th, Burt Bacharach: One Amazing Night, Live at The World Café).
- Playlist: The Very Best of James Brown– this single-disc summary of The Godfather of Soul’s tenure on Volcano Records features tracks from his Live At The Apollo 1995 plus “Living in America,” “How Do You Stop” and remixes by Full Force. Also includes a rare extended mix of “Gimme Your Love,” Aretha Franklin’s duet with Brown, remixed by Prince.
- Playlist: The Very Best of Jagged Edge– revisit the Atlanta R&B group’s greatest hits of the ‘90s and ‘00s, including “Let’s Get Married,” “Promise,” “Where Da Party At” and “Walked Outta Heaven.” Includes three rare single-only remixes.
- Playlist: The Very Best of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince– 25 years after Will Smith took a trip to Bel-Air and became a megastar in the process, here’s a sample of the Philadelphia rap duo’s greatest hits! Includes a rare live version of “Brand New Funk” making its CD debut, as well as a U.K.-only remix of latter-day outtake “Lovely Daze.” This set is co-produced by our own Mike Duquette!
- Playlist: The Very Best of Santana– this new collection is a single-disc summary of Santana’s genre-defying 40+ year career, including tracks from his albums on Columbia (“Black Magic Woman,” “Evil Ways”) and Arista (“Smooth,” “The Game of Love”).
