Loaded: Jeff Beck Offers "Live+" With Tour Performances, New Studio Recordings

April 27, 2015 By Joe Marchese Leave a Comment

Jeff Beck Live PlusWith Jeff Beck currently hitting the road once more, the time is right for Atco's upcoming release of Jeff Beck Live+ culled from performances on the legendary guitarist's 2014 tour with ZZ Top.  The May 19 release features 14 live cuts along with Beck's first two studio recordings since 2010.

Beck's tour last year with ZZ Top was curtailed due to the injury of the band's bassist, Dusty Hill; Live+ will arrive in the midst of the April 30-May 10 tour dates for ZZ Top and Beck.  On May 12, Beck will resume his solo tour.  One could reasonably expect to hear some of the 14 live songs featured on this new disc during Beck's current tour.  The guitar legend is backed by vocalist Jimmy Hall, bassist Rhonda Smith, drummer Jonathan Joseph and guitarist Nicolas Meier on a set that stretches back to the early days of his career.

Highlights include "Morning Dew" (from The Jeff Beck Group's Truth, 1968), "Superstition" (from supergroup LP Beck, Bogert, Appice, 1973), "Big Block" (from Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop, 1989), and two tracks that netted Beck Grammy Awards: his cover of The Beatles' "A Day in the Life" and "Hammerhead."  Other covers on Live+ include Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come," The Mahavishnu Orchestra's "You Know You Know," and the early 20th century ballad "Danny Boy" which stopped the show nightly on Beck's 2013 tour with Brian Wilson.  (The joint Beck/Wilson arrangement of "Danny Boy," alas, remains vaulted and appears likely to remain so.)  The two new studio tracks wrap up Live+.  "Tribal" and "My Tiled White Floor" feature guest vocals from Ruth Lorenzo and Veronica Bellino, respectively.  Beck's seventeenth studio album is expected to arrive later this year.

The two-time Grammy winner and two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee continues on the road until May 23.  Jeff Beck's Live+ arrives in stores from Atco, a division of Rhino, on May 19 and can be pre-ordered below!
