Welcome to this week's Release Round-Up!  We hope all of our U.S. readers enjoyed a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.  And now, without further ado, onto the music!

Yes - Progeny

Yes, Progeny: Seven Shows from Seventy-Two (Rhino) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K.)

Finally, after a brief delay, Progeny is here! This whopping 14-CD box captures seven complete concerts from Yes circa 1972 - the same tour leading up to the performances preserved on Yessongs.  For those who don't need 14 discs, 2-CD and 3-LP Highlights distillations are also available (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K.) !

Streetlife Serenade SACD

Billy Joel, Streetlife Serenade (Audio Fidelity) (Quadraphonic Hybrid SACD) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K.)

Billy Joel's third studio album, from 1974, gets a hybrid SACD reissue featuring both the original stereo and 4.0 quad surround mixes.  Features "The Entertainer," "Root Beer Rag" and "Souvenir."  The stereo mix is playable on all CD players.

Labelle - Nightbirds SACD

Labelle, Nightbirds (Audio Fidelity) (Quadraphonic Hybrid SACD) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K.)

With production from New Orleans' own piano man, Allen Toussaint, the No. 7 Pop/No. 4 R&BNightbirds (1974) was the most successful LP ever by Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash.  It was bolstered by the success of Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan's "Lady Marmalade," which topped the Pop, R&B and Dance charts.  Crewe's "It Took a Long Time (For the First Time in My Life") is also featured on the album - you can hear Bob's own version on Bob Crewe: The Complete Elektra Recordings from Second Disc Records and Real Gone Music - as well as a couple of Toussaint compositions and a number of Nona Hendryx originals.  This hybrid SACD has a remastered stereo version of the album (playable on all CD players) as well as the original 4.0 quad mix!

Songs of Aloha

The soundtrack to Almost Famous director Cameron Crowe's upcoming film Aloha - due in theatres this Friday - is here, featuring songs from David Crosby, Fleetwood Mac, Beck, Josh Ritter, Hall and Oates, and others.

Cy Coleman - You Fascinate Me So

Harbinger Records and The Musical Theatre Project celebrate one of the most legendary voices in Broadway and jazz: Cy Coleman.  You Fascinate Me So, a companion to Andy Propst's superlative Coleman biography of the same name, features 28 rare and previously unreleased tracks played and sung by the composer from musicals including Wildcat, Little Me, Sweet Charity, Seesaw and more.  The set also includes rarities like "The Laarge Daark Aardvark Song" co-written with late comedy hero Allan Sherman, and Coleman's own rendition of his early pop hit "Why Try to Change Me Now" recently interpreted by Bob Dylan on his Shadows in the Night!  A must-have.  Watch for our full review soon!

Donna Summer's Geffen and Atlantic recordings, reissued last year in a series of deluxe reissues, have now been distilled for a 2-CD, 32-track budget-priced compilation featuring hits plus single edits, remixes and more.

Textones - Midnight Mission

Omnivore has generously expanded editions of the first two albums from Carla Olson's band The Textones!  Midnight Mission features guest spots from Gene Clark, Ry Cooder, Don Henley and co-producer Barry Goldberg, while Cedar Creek boasts appearances by Ian McLagan, Howie Epstein and The Waters!

Patti Labelle - I'm in Love Again

Funky Town Grooves adds four single versions - "Love, Need and Want You," "I'm in Love Again," "If Only You Knew" and "I'll Never, Never Give Up" - to a newly-remastered edition of Patti LaBelle's sixth studio album (and second for Philadelphia International Records).

Essential Bruce Hornsby

Fifth Dimension - Four-Fer

Australia's Raven label reissues the first four albums by The 5th Dimension, originally released between 1967 and 1969, as a 2-CD set also including five previously issued bonus tracks.  Includes the group's legendary hits "Up, Up and Away," "Stoned Soul Picnic," "The Age of Aquarius," "Wedding Bell Blues," "Workin' on a Groovy Thing" and more!

KC and the Sunshine Band - The Painter

The Painter, the pop-oriented eighth studio album by KC And The Sunshine Band, was released in 1981 on the Epic label and is newly reissued by Funky Town Grooves with three bonus tracks, all from singles.

Jeanne - The Musical

Stage Door Records rescues the score of another lost British musical with the previously unreleased original studio cast recording of the 1985/86 Joan of Arc musical Jeanne .  Olivier Award-nominated singer-songwriter Shirlie Roden's rock opera premiered at Birmingham Repertory Theatre in September 1985, starring Siobhan McCarthy in the title role alongside Peter Straker and Malcolm Roberts. The production subsequently transferred to London's Sadler's Wells for a limited season in March 1986 directed by Bill Kenwright and starring Rebecca Storm as Jeanne. This studio cast album was recorded during the show's development, and features composer Roden as Jeanne plus Richard Barnes (Jesus Christ Superstar), Peter Straker (Hair) and The Move's Carl Wayne (Blood Brothers).

JOE MARCHESE (Editor) joined The Second Disc shortly after its launch in early 2010, and has since penned daily news and reviews about classic music of all genres. In 2015, Joe formed the Second Disc Records label. Celebrating the great songwriters, producers and artists who created the sound of American popular song, Second Disc Records, in conjunction with Real Gone Music, has released newly-curated collections produced by Joe from iconic artists such as Johnny Mathis, Bobby Darin, Laura Nyro, Melissa Manchester, Chet Atkins, and many others. He has contributed liner notes to reissues from a diverse array of artists, among them Nat "King" Cole, Paul Williams, Lesley Gore, Dusty Springfield, B.J. Thomas, The 5th Dimension, Burt Bacharach, The Mamas and the Papas, Carpenters, Perry Como, Rod McKuen, Doris Day, Jackie DeShannon, and Andy Williams, and has compiled releases for talents including Robert Goulet and Keith Allison of Paul Revere and the Raiders. Over the past two decades, Joe has also worked in a variety of capacities on and off Broadway as well as at some of the premier theatres in the U.S., including Lincoln Center Theater, George Street Playhouse, Paper Mill Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre, and the York Theatre Company. He has felt privileged to work on productions alongside artists such as the late Jack Klugman, Eli Wallach, Arthur Laurents, Betty Comden and Adolph Green. In 2009, Joe began contributing theatre and music reviews to the print publication The Sondheim Review, and in 2012, he joined the staff of The Digital Bits as a regular contributor writing about film and television on DVD and Blu-ray. Joe currently resides in the suburbs of New York City.
