The newest release from our very own Second Disc Records imprint of Real Gone Music is here!  The first-ever American reissue of Paul Williams' 1979 Portrait Records album has been newly remastered and features four bonus tracks - three previously unreleased outtakes and one rare mono single version!  Read more about this release here!

Saved by the Bell

Iron Butterfly's Top 5 sophomore album spawned hit singles "Soul Experience" and "In the Time of Our Lives." Real Gone expands it with two bonus tracks previously included on a long out-of-print 1999 reissue ("I Can't Help But Deceive You Little Girl" and "To Be Alone") but gives the whole set a fresh remastering and new liner notes.

Lesley Gore - California Nights

Lesley Gore, California Nights: Expanded Edition (Ace) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K.)

Ace expands Lesley Gore's classic 1967 album featuring the title track by Marvin Hamlisch and productions by both Bob Crewe and Jack Nitzsche.  Ace's reissue adds an additional dozen highlights from Lesley's 1965 albums My Town, My Guy And Me and All About Love plus three mid-'60s recordings that first surfaced from the Mercury vaults in the 1990s.

Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard team up for an all-new set with a title paying tribute to legends Django Reinhardt and Jimmie Rodgers.  The 14 tracks include "Django and Jimmie," "It's All Going to Pot" (about one of Willie's favorite subjects), "Missing Ol' Johnny Cash" featuring Bobby Bare, Merle's "Somewhere Between" sung by Willie, and Willie's "Family Bible" sung by Merle!

Bessie Soundtrack

Bessie: Music from the HBO Film (Legacy) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K.)

Queen Latifah headlines this soundtrack to HBO's biopic about blues legend Bessie Smith.  The 17-track album debuts seven new performances by Latifah including "Young Woman Blues," "Preachin' The Blues," "Long Old Road," "Down Hearted Blues," "Work House Blues," "Weepin' Woman Blues" (a duet with Pat Bass) and "Gimme A Pigfoot and A Bottle Of Beer (2015 Remix)," a remix of Bessie Smith's original recording featuring newly recorded instrumentation and vocals by Queen Latifah.  Other performances on the CD include Carmen Twillie's "Prove It on Me," Tamar-Kali's "See See Rider," Cécile McLorin Salvant's "Laugh Clown Laugh," two instrumentals by Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, and a selection of original period recordings by artists including Louis Armstrong and Fats Waller.

Return to Oz

David Shire, Return to Oz: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Intrada) (Amazon U.S.)

Here's one you might have missed.  Intrada has recently issued for the first time in full David Shire's rousing score to Walt Disney Pictures' L. Frank Baum-inspired dark fantasy Return to Oz!  This cult favorite score can now be heard on 2 CDs containing the actual film cues and the specially-assembled original LP version!

Jaws 3-D

Alan Parker, Jaws 3-D: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Intrada) (Amazon U.S.)

Intrada also has the world premiere complete release on two CDs of composer Alan Parker's action-packed score to 1983's Jaws 3-D!

JOE MARCHESE (Editor) joined The Second Disc shortly after its launch in early 2010, and has since penned daily news and reviews about classic music of all genres. In 2015, Joe formed the Second Disc Records label. Celebrating the great songwriters, producers and artists who created the sound of American popular song, Second Disc Records, in conjunction with Real Gone Music, has released newly-curated collections produced by Joe from iconic artists such as Johnny Mathis, Bobby Darin, Laura Nyro, Melissa Manchester, Chet Atkins, and many others. He has contributed liner notes to reissues from a diverse array of artists, among them Nat "King" Cole, Paul Williams, Lesley Gore, Dusty Springfield, B.J. Thomas, The 5th Dimension, Burt Bacharach, The Mamas and the Papas, Carpenters, Perry Como, Rod McKuen, Doris Day, Jackie DeShannon, and Andy Williams, and has compiled releases for talents including Robert Goulet and Keith Allison of Paul Revere and the Raiders. Over the past two decades, Joe has also worked in a variety of capacities on and off Broadway as well as at some of the premier theatres in the U.S., including Lincoln Center Theater, George Street Playhouse, Paper Mill Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre, and the York Theatre Company. He has felt privileged to work on productions alongside artists such as the late Jack Klugman, Eli Wallach, Arthur Laurents, Betty Comden and Adolph Green. In 2009, Joe began contributing theatre and music reviews to the print publication The Sondheim Review, and in 2012, he joined the staff of The Digital Bits as a regular contributor writing about film and television on DVD and Blu-ray. Joe currently resides in the suburbs of New York City.
