Long Time Comin': Next Bruce Springsteen Live Archive Release Highlights 2005 "Devils & Dust" Tour

September 29, 2015 By Randy Fairman Leave a Comment

Bruce Springsteen - Ohio 2005The next installment in Bruce Springsteen's live archive series has been revealed:  Schottenstein Center, Columbus, Ohio 2005.

The show for this release is from July 31, 2005 and falls in the middle of Springsteen's Devils & Dust Tour.  Devils & Dust was released in April of that year, debuting at Number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.  It was his first album following 2002's The Rising which had reunited Springsteen with the E Street Band for the first time on a new studio record in nearly 20 years.  For Devils & Dust, he returned to solo work and crafted a somber, acoustic-tinged album consisting of songs in a Nebraska or Ghost of Tom Joad vein.  Springsteen would create a new band for the next year's We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions before getting back with the E Street Band for 2007's Magic.

To promote Devils & Dust, Springsteen toured in embarked on a tour which saw him performing in small to mid-size venues, far from his usual stadium shows.  Initially conceived with a band onstage, Springsteen decided to perform the show with only himself playing a large range of instruments from the usual guitar and piano to others such as the ukulele and banjo (there were a couple of offstage musicians with additional instrumentation offstage - Alan Fitzgerald is the musician for this release).  The setlists consisted of material from the new album plus rarities and long-unperformed live songs from throughout Springsteen's career.

The show was recorded live by John Cooper.  It was mixed to DSD from 24 bit/ 96k 24 Hz 24 channel multitracks by Toby Scott in August of this year, at Stone Hill Studios .  This release has been mastered by Adam Ayan at Gateway Mastering.

The concert will be offered in Direct Stream Digital or DSD ($39.95) - a format with 64 times the sampling rate of CD - as well as the usual options of MP3 ($9.95, 256 kbps), FLAC or Apple Lossless ($12.95), HD-Audio ($24.95, 24 bit/192 kHz, FLAC-HD or ALAC-HD) and CD-R ($23.00).  CD-Rs will not begin shipping until October 12, but those purchasing the CD-R sets have the usual option to pay an extra $5.00 to obtain the MP3s now.

All seven volumes of The Bruce Springsteen Archive Series - plus a number of recent concerts from 2014 - are available at Springsteen's official live store for download and physical purchase.  You can also sample tracks at this link which you'll find just below!
