Before Sia hit it big, both as a pop songwriter for Rihanna, Beyonce and Britney Spears and an enormous-voiced singer of tunes like "Titanium," "Chandelier" and recent hit "Alive," she was a quirky, tuneful indie-pop artist whose albums became critical darlings if not commercial successes. One such project, her third album Colour the Small One, is being reissued this spring, as both a digital expanded edition and, for the first time, a vinyl offering.
Colour the Small One was, upon release in 2004, an intriguing step in Sia's budding solo career. The Adelaide-born tunesmith (a niece of Men At Work frontman Colin Hay) had gained notice in the U.K. as a singer for electronic outfit Zero 7 before breaking out with a solo U.K. Top 10 hit, "Taken for Granted," in 2001. Furler soon a left turn, abandoning her trip-hop sound for lower-fidelity electronic folk on Colour the Small One. Critics praised the album, but chart success was nonexistent, and it would be four years until Sia released another album. For as many copies as the album didn't sell, however, nearly 4 million people heard at least one of its songs, as "Breathe Me" scored the powerful montage that ended HBO's acclaimed drama Six Feet Under in the summer of 2005.
Now, just months after Sia's seventh album, This is Acting, gave her a second consecutive No. 1 album in Australia and a second consecutive Top 5 album in the U.S., Astralwerks will put out Colour the Small One on vinyl for the first time. The standard album will be pressed on white vinyl, while a grey variant, limited to 650 numbered copies through vinyl collector club Vinyl Me, Please, will also be available. And a new digital expanded edition of the record adds four tracks: rare remixes of singles "Breathe Me" and "Numb," plus B-sides "Lucky" and "So Bored."
Both versions will be released on April 1. Pre-order the vinyl and check out the digital track list below!
