Fans of the sumptuous '80s pop of British outfit Haircut One Hundred are in for a treat with Cherry Pop Records' exhaustive double-disc edition of the band's 1982 debut album, Pelican West. 

Fronted by singer/songwriter Nick Heyward, Haircut One Hundred blended New Wave, jazz and funk into a dazzling sonic package, all biting guitar chords and propulsive bass lines chased with expressive saxophone lines and horn charts for a little cosmopolitan extra. In the band's home country, they logged their first four singles into the U.K. Top 10, with biggest hit "Love Plus One" breaking into the Billboard Top 40 in the U.S. as well.

Reissued as Pelican West Plus in 1992 with three non-LP B-sides and two 12" remixes, Cherry Pop finally pulls out all the stops with their double-disc edition of the original album. The 17 assembled bonus tracks feature the entire contents of the band's brief but pivotal singles discography from the album, with complete remixes and B-sides for "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)," "Love Plus One," "Fantastic Day" and "Nobody's Fool." Rarities include two mixes from a U.S. promo 12" single, a live cut of "Fantastic Day" from the picture disc edition of the single, and two remixes from a Nick Hayward solo single. (Indeed, Hayward left Haircut One Hundred shortly after they broke into the charts for a successful solo career in England. The band's follow-up album, Paint and Paint, featuring percussionist Marc Fox on vocals, failed to make an impact.)

The set is rounded out with an informative booklet filled with cool artwork, discographical information and an informative essay written by Michael Sylvester. (The booklet also gets ahead of a minor audio glitch, a dropout on the album track "Lemon Firebrigade" that was present on all available master tapes.)

All in all, the set is a real treat for fans of '80s British pop, and a worthy addition to any New Waver's collection. It's available now from Cherry Pop--order links and track listing is below!
