A Lot of Respect: Erasure to Issue PledgeMusic Box Set As Wide Release

March 23, 2017 By Mike Duquette 2 Comments

BUY NOW FROM AMAZON.COM

If you missed out on Erasure's enormous box set released through PledgeMusic last holiday, it doesn't have to be--it's being made available to the general public this week.

From Moscow to Mars: An Erasure Anthology is a treasury of riches from the seminal British synthpop duo, covering their first three decades together. This 12CD/1DVD set includes a variety of hits and rarities, including:

  • Three discs of the band's complete single A-sides
  • Two discs of the group's personal favorites, one compiled by singer Andy Bell and one by Vince Clarke
  • Two discs of non-LP B-sides
  • Two discs of remixes, including many previously unreleased gems
  • A new live collection featuring recordings from 25 years of touring
  • A disc of mostly unreleased demos and other rare recordings
  • The 2016 radio documentary A Little Respect: 30 Years of Erasure
  • The DVD premiere of 1989's longform video The Wild! Concert with bonus backstage footage

Erasure's synthpop pedigree is impossible to deny, with Vince Clarke having been a charter member of Depeche Mode and Yazoo. But his longest and most successful pairing has been with singer Andy Bell, whose distinctive, reach-for-the-sky vocal style earned the group an unbroken string of 24 U.K. Top 40 hits in their first 21 years together. Songs like "Chains of Love," "A Little Respect," "Always" and "Breathe" remain seminal examples of the genre, and helped the group sell more than 25 million records worldwide. And with a new album, World Be Gone (their 17th for Mute Records), due in May, now's a great time for the Erasure superfan to pick up this deluxe package, offering the art amenities of the original release (a hardback book, two art prints, six postcards, a "space passport," and a set of stamps).

From Moscow to Mars is on sale at Amazon with a general release date of Friday, March 24. Pre-order your copy below!

Mike Duquette

Mike Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he was a teenager. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, holding positions at Legacy Recordings and Rhino Records and contributing to Allmusic, Discogs, City Pages, Ultimate Classic Rock and Mondo Records, for whom he penned liner notes for his favorite piece of music: John Williams' Oscar-winning score to 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with his wife, a cat named Ravioli, twin daughters and a large yet tasteful collection of music.

That's funny. It was supposed to be a limited run. A lot of fans that thought it was exclusive will be mad. More than likely there were more copies pressed than ordered. I really wanted to buy this, but I already own most of the music. I think for 13 albums they should have just released the catalogue. Their album remasters stopped after EMI was sold and BMG has done a horrible job with the Mute catalogue.

This box was released around the time of the Dead or Alive box. I opted for this as mine included the signed print from Pete Burns. The box has doubled in price and if you include the replacement discs it's current DIscogs value brings it close to $450
