Pet Shop Boys Add 'Yes,' 'Elysium' to 'Catalogue' Series

After rebooting their reissue program last month, Pet Shop Boys will continue Catalogue 1985-2012 with expanded, remastered reissues of their final two studio albums for Parlophone Records, 2009's Yes and 2012's Elysium, on October 20.

Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe's 10th and 11th studio albums continued an still-unbroken streak of U.K. Top 10 efforts. Yes' lead single, "Love Etc.," was a British Top 20 hit and broke a U.S. record for most Billboard No. 1 dance hits by a duo or group. Legendary guitarist Johnny Marr appears on several tracks, including "Did You See Me Coming?" and "Beautiful People." Two discs of B-sides and bonus material are added, including a version of "The Loving Kind," a hit for Girls Aloud, and demos from the theatrical production My Dad's a Birdman.

Follow-up Elysium, described by Tennant as the duo's "most beautiful album," was inspired by Kanye West's 808s and Heartbreak. It featured the singles "Winner" and "Leaving," and here is expanded with a disc of bonus material, including three previously unreleased demos.

Both sets will be available on CD and vinyl, with extensive track notes by Tennant and Lowe, archival photos and deluxe packaging designed by minimalist artist Farrow. As previously reported, Catalogue 1985-2012 will next loop back around with superior remasters of the group's out-of-print expanded reissues of Please (1986), Actually (1987), Introspective (1988), Behaviour (1990), Very (1993) and Bilingual (1996)--all originally issued in 2001.

Mike Duquette

Mike Duquette (Founder) was fascinated with catalog music ever since he was a teenager. A 2009 graduate of Seton Hall University with a B.A. in journalism, Mike paired his profession with his passion through The Second Disc, one of the first sites to focus on all reissue labels great and small. His passion for reissues turned into a career, holding positions at Legacy Recordings and Rhino Records and contributing to Allmusic, Discogs, City Pages, Ultimate Classic Rock and Mondo Records, for whom he penned liner notes for his favorite piece of music: John Williams' Oscar-winning score to 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.' Born and raised in New Jersey, Mike lives in Astoria, Queens with his wife, a cat named Ravioli, twin daughters and a large yet tasteful collection of music.
