40 years after Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols charged into record stores, Virgin and Universal Music Catalogue are bringing a box set version of the set back into print--and they've also recently expanded a collection of interview excerpts for hardcore fans, too.
Five years ago, Virgin/Universal expanded Never Mind The Bollocks as a deluxe box set which featured the original remastered album, a disc of studio rarities, a live disc and a DVD of performances and vintage interviews--plus a recreation of the infamous "God Save The Queen" single and a 100-page book. This new version replaces that long-out-of-print set, offering the same CDs and DVD and the material from the book in a slightly smaller-sized (less than the 12" x 12" box of the original), "budget-minded" edition. It's in stores on October 27.
Just one album from The Sex Pistols was legacy enough--but the punk icons were known as much for their unpredictable appearances as anything musical. That was made clear with Virgin's posthumous release of Some Product: Carri On Sex Pistols. When it was issued in the summer of 1979, the Pistols were already in the past. Following their fiery release of the controversial "God Save The Queen" and Never Mind The Bollocks in 1977, they splintered one month into the next year, thanks to frontman Johnny Rotten's increasing isolation from his bandmates, particularly volatile bassist Sid Vicious, and a disastrous U.S. tour packed with hostile audiences.
But the trail of destruction they left behind them in '77 was worth a listen on the jagged Some Product, which featured shards of interviews and advertisements in which the group appeared on both sides of the Atlantic. Topics included their image and sound, Johnny Rotten's upbringing (complete with interviews with his mother), the shocking lyrics of "God Save The Queen," and even a closing segment of the infamous December 1, 1976 appearance on Thames Television's Today, where a contentious interview with Bill Grundy led to some on-air swearing that spread beyond the program's London audience and earned national headlines--effectively mainstreaming the band.
More Product, which features a portion of an original advertisement detailing the various bans of "God Save The Queen" as its cover, features the Some Product collection alongside two discs of rare interviews. One, an uncensored interview with Johnny and Sid which aired on BBC Radio 1's Rock On at the end of 1977, was included as a DVD extra on the 35th anniversary Bollocks set. The other disc includes unheard interviews, both taped in November of 1977, with programs in Newcastle and Edinburgh--a must-hear set for the Pistols completist. The set's available now and can be ordered below.

Murray says
I used to love the Pistols and I can still hear a song or two every now and then (mostly Did You No Wrong), but to me, they just haven't aged as well as The Jam, The Clash, or even Adam and the Ants.
I think you have to have either been there or be young to want to listen to them.
Kevin says
Any plans on this shipping to the US? I see the More Product is available at Amazon US but at a prohibitive price.
Mike says
To my ears, The Jam didn't age well. The other three bands are still great listens.
