It's no secret: sometimes, reissue fans and collectors know what they want better than anyone - market analysis be damned. U.K. label Cherry Red is giving fans the opportunity to forecast some vinyl reissues with their new Cherry Red Bespoke initiative!
Similar to Run Out Groove's methodology, Cherry Red Bespoke invites fans to have a look at some possible reissue titles and vote with your funds as to which ones you'd like to have as part of your collection! Track selection and packaging have already been planned out, and if you and other fans successfully order enough within 90 days of announcement, they'll be sent directly to you - with no obligation if the title isn't produced. Fans are also encouraged to send their own suggestions by e-mail to ideas AT cherryredbespoke DOT com.
The first three titles in the running are:
- Jah Wobble, In Dub - compiled and annotated by Wobble himself, this colored vinyl set (with three collectible postcards) is a 2LP distillation of the 2CD set In Dub, released by Cherry Red in 2016 and featuring dub mixes of his solo works in the years after his stint as the original bassist in John Lydon's Public Image Ltd.
- Spencer Davis Group, With Their New Face On - released in 1968, the Group's fourth album was the first recorded after Muff and Steve Winwood left for Traffic. This 2LP edition will include the original album in stereo plus more than an album's worth of bonus tracks, including songs from the film Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush and a host of mono mixes and non-LP material.
- Theatre of Hate, Westworld - this British post-punk outfit only released one proper album during their lifetime, but a host of single and outtake material released later kept their fan base happy in the decade afterward, prompting them to tour and record again into the 21st century. Westworld, that sole album, was released in 1982 and produced by Mick Jones of The Clash; this double LP version (featuring three postcards along with the gatefold jacekt and printed inner sleeves) pairs that album up with Aria of the Devil, a planned 1983 follow-up (again with Jones as producer) that was not issued until 1998 (and would be released here on vinyl for the first time).
