Frank Sinatra, Standing Room Only (Capitol/UMe) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

This new 3-CD, book-style box set from Capitol/UMe features three spectacular live concerts from three decades of Frank Sinatra's storied career, including the January 28. 1966 second show with The Count Basie Orchestra and conductor Quincy Jones at The Sands in Las Vegas, making its CD debut; and two previously unreleased shows: October 7, 1974 at Philadelphia's Spectrum, and October 24, 1987 at Dallas' Reunion Arena.  Read more here, and watch this space for Joe's full review!

Roy Buchanan, Live at Town Hall 1974 (Real Gone Music) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

Real Gone Music celebrates the legacy of guitarist Roy Buchanan with this special archival release.  Buchanan's Live Stock album was drawn from two 1974 performances at New York's Town Hall.  Live at Town Hall 1974 expands upon Live Stock by premiering the entirety of both sets from Town Hall on a new 2-CD set.  It features the six songs from the original album, a version of Neil Young's "Down By the River" which surfaced on a 1992 compilation, and 14 additional previously unreleased tracks!  The booklet features liner notes by Buchanan biographer Phil Carson plus photos from the night of the show taken by Charles R. Cohen.  John Sellards' beautiful new artwork tops it all off.

Barry McGuire and Eric Hord, Barry McGuire and The Doctor (Real Gone Music) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

Real Gone has a reissue of the rare and unusual 1971 A&M/Ode album from folk-rock pioneer Barry McGuire and guitar hero Eric Hord, a.k.a. "The Doctor." The album was produced by Lou Adler and two of McGuire's former New Christy Minstrels bandmates, Nick Woods and Art Podell.  Besides Hord, other musicians on the album include Chris Hillman (Byrds), "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow (Flying Burrito Brothers), Byron Berline (Dillard and Clark) and Bernie Leadon (The Eagles). They were even joined by an uncredited Herb Alpert on one song.  Tom Pickles provides the new liner notes drawing on an interview with McGuire, and Mike Milchner has remastered!  Read more about both Real Gone titles here!

John Williams, Star Wars soundtrack reissues (Walt Disney Records) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

May the Fourth be with you!  The Star Wars soundtracks are back in new CD editions from Walt Disney Records.  The label has returned to the original soundtrack album presentations of each film.  However, unlike the vinyl and digital release in 2016, which were sourced from the original album masters, these releases are reconstructed from new 24/192 transfers of the original score overseen by Shawn Murphy at Skywalker Sound. Murphy has confirmed that "the film mixes from the original sources" (as opposed to LP-specific and later mixes) will be edited to match the original soundtrack programs.  These releases mark the first release of the original Star Wars double album and Return of The Jedi single album programs on CD in more than 30 years, as well as the first-ever CD release featuring the double album program for The Empire Strikes Back.  Read more, including tracklistings, here!

Tom Verlaine, Cover (Wounded Bird) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)

The 1984 album by Television frontman Tom Verlaine comes to U.S. CD in its original American release sequence.  This edition promises to fix the flaw on the previous European CD pressing on the track "Five Miles of You."  It also features "Lindi Lu," and adds two bonus tracks, "Your Finest Hour" and the extended version of "Five Miles of You."

Jeez, they couldn't have worked up a better cover for that Jan Berry release?
