"Chain of Fools," "Respect," "A Natural Woman (You Make Me Feel Like)," "Think." Between 1967 and 1970, Aretha Franklin released some of the most scorching soul of all time on the Atlantic label. Now, those seminal 45s from that three-year period (including nine gold records) are being collected on CD, vinyl, download, and streaming from Rhino. On September 28, the label will release The Atlantic Singles Collection 1967-1970. The CD and digital iterations boast the 34 singles which Franklin released during her first three years with Atlantic. The track listing for the vinyl version has been truncated to 25 songs to fit the LP format.
The new collection has been arranged in chronological fashion. The songs were featured on six classic studio albums: I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You (1967), Aretha Arrives (1967), Lady Soul (1968), Aretha Now (1968), Soul '69 (1969), This Girl's in Love with You (1970), and Spirit in the Dark (1970). A pair of non-LP sides include "The House That Jack Built," later collected on Aretha's Gold, and Franklin's cover of Elton John and Bernie Taupin's "Border Song," which was released as a single in 1970. It later appeared on her 1972 album Young, Gifted and Black.
Among the many treasures on this set are nine R&B chart-toppers: "I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)," "Respect" (which also topped the pop chart), "Baby I Love You," "Chain of Fools," "(Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You've Been Gone," "Think," "Share Your Love with Me," "Call Me," and "Don't Play That Song." Additionally, The Atlantic Singles Collection includes her beloved reinterpretations of such diverse tunes as "I Say a Little Prayer," "The Weight," "You Send Me," "Eleanor Rigby," "Let It Be," "Son of a Preacher Man," and "Gentle on My Mind."
It is expected that these tracks will be reissued in their original mono single versions. You'll find the track listings below for both formats and pre-order links where available. The Amazon U.S. link will go live shortly! Look for the set on CD, vinyl, and digital platforms on September 28 from Rhino!

This looks great big Aretha fan!
Gootsy says
The vinyl version is quite tempting - Too bad they didn't keep "Dr. Feelgood" on it.
Jetrocket says
Atlantic needs to stop this recycling bullshit and remaster and release the last five Areha lps - particularly Almighty Fire which needs a serious re-assessment..
LeVan says
I agree but her entire catalog needs to be remastered.
ISH says
Amen. Those late 1970s albums are much better than their reputation! I'd buy em all.

IIRC these were announced for release several years ago. There was talk that Aretha, who apparently owns these latter albums, wanted too much money for their re-release.
Brian Weber says
Very exciting release! Instant buy for me!

It is sad news that The Queen of Soul has passed away but it's great that that this collection of mono singles is being released, but (and I'm sure many will agree with me) in that her entire Atlantic Records albums (both studio and live, mono and stereo, and any rarities, non album tracks, unreleased, etc.) that she recorded between 1967 and 1979 seriously needs to be reissued and remastered. These reissues are long overdue for fans and collectors. Atlantic Records should give Aretha the respect that she and her fans deserve by reissuing those recordings.

You know the Amazing Grace project was intended as a movie project. The few minutes of footage that I’ve seen on YouTube are arresting. How wonderful it would be to have a theatrical release or special edition blu Ray..
LedMan says
Does anyone know if this 2LP set is all analog? It sure sounds like it. Very punchy bass and perfect treble.
