A Red Letter Day: Pet Shop Boys' 'Further Listening' Series Completes With Remastering of Three Titles

Pet Shop Boys' remastered Catalogue: 1985-2012 series is drawing to a close on August 31 with the fourth and final round of albums.  This batch includes Behaviour (1990); Very (1993); and Bilingual (1996).  All three albums from Messrs. Tennant and Lowe have been newly remastered and will be accompanied by Further Listening discs of bonus tracks such as demos, extended mixes, and remixes.  (Note that these three albums were released with the Further Listening discs in 2001, and those track listings have been retained for these remastered editions.)

Composer-producer Harold Faltermeyer was on board for Behaviour as co-producer, and much of the album was recorded at his Munich studio.  Upon completion at London's Sarm West Studios, the album was released in October 1990 and reached No. 2 on the U.K. Album Chart as well as a platinum certification.  The original LP featuring "Being Boring," "So Hard," and "How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously" has been expanded with 13 additional tracks including an extended version of the U2/Frankie Valli-by-way-of-The-Boystown Gang mash-up, "Where the Streets Have No Name (I Can't Take My Eyes Off You)."

1993's Very bested its predecessor by reaching No. 1 in the U.K. (not to mention Germany, Sweden and Switzerland).  It yielded five singles including "Can You Forgive Her?" and "Go West," a cover of the Village People's song. The album was the first to be produced almost entirely by Pet Shop Boys themselves, with additional programming and production from Pete Gleadall and Stephen Hague. The Further Listening disc adds 16 tracks including the demo of "Falling" for Kylie Minogue and a 1992 twelve-inch mix of "Go West."

Bilingual, from 1996, was the sixth studio album released by Pet Shop Boys.  A U.K. top 5 success, it included five singles, all of which made the top 20 on the U.K. Singles Chart.  Incorporating Latin music influences, it was recorded by PSB with Danny Tenaglia and Chris Porter.  A Gold disc in the U.K. (and platinum in Spain), Bilingual gains 15 bonus tracks including originally-unissued single versions of "Discoteca" and "A Red Letter Day."

Each reissue includes a booklet with contributions from Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, plus copious archival photos.  All three titles are due from Parlophone on August 31 and can be pre-ordered at the links below!

Any actual reason to repurchase these if I have the prior reissues?

The sound has been newly remastered but the content is identical to the prior reissues.

Neil Tennent said not to buy the new if you have the old. The new versions are slightly louder. That's the only difference.
I had no intention on purchasing the new versions. That's quite a chunk of change for something I already own several times over.
I may buy some of the lps to fill the gaps, but you can find NM to Sealed copies of the original import pressings for less.
I'd be happy if they tried releasing a consistently great pop album.

After listening to the first three reissues, the new remasters are slightly less loud and not as compressed, contrary to previous comment.

The new editions have actually been a little quieter and less brickwalled than the original remasters of these titles, and these refer to the CDs ONLY as the vinyl remasters of the entire catalog have never been presented before until this campaign which began mid-2017. They sound fantastic and pull out some subtle elements the original masters did not illuminate. Some of the best re-purchases of albums I have ever made in my life.
