Life In The Fast Lane: Rhino To Release Eagles Box Set Containing Complete Studio and Live Albums on CD & Vinyl

September 26, 2018 By Randy Fairman 8 Comments

BUY NOW FROM AMAZON.COM

This upcoming October and November are crowded with large box-set releases for classic rock fans with major titles coming from marquee artists like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, David Bowie, and Bob Dylan.  You can now add another set to that list as Rhino has just announced a new box covering the recorded output of Eagles, entitled Legacy, due November 2.

This set contains all of the original studio and live albums by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers from 1972's Eagles to 2007's Long Road Out Of Eden.  In addition, a bonus disc has been included featuring 10 single edits, B-sides and singles (including the long-unavailable "Get You in the Mood").  The package comes in two editions: a 12 CD/1 DVD/1 BD version or a 15-LP set.  Exclusive to the CD box is a DVD of 1994's concert film Hell Freezes Over and a Blu-ray of the 2005 concert film Farewell Tour: Live From Melbourne.

BUY NOW FROM AMAZON.COM

The albums Hell Freezes Over and Millennium Concert (taken from the box set Selected Works 1972-1999 from 2000) have been newly remastered by Bob Ludwig for this set.  Those album are making their vinyl debut in the vinyl box (other than a small original European vinyl pressing of Hell Freezes Over).  No other mastering information has been provided.  (Rhino's The Studio Albums 1972-1979 from 2013 utilized older remasterings from the late 1990s, although Hotel California was newly remastered for last year's 40th anniversary edition).  Both versions of the box set are housed in slipcases and include a 54-page hardcover book with unseen photos, memorabilia and artwork.

We've got the list of albums below and the full tracklisting for the bonus disc below together with preorder links if you would like to revisit the career of Eagles on November 2.

While it's always good to see Eagles reissues, I'm most interested in the "Singles & B-Sides" disc. I've seen this in other places, but can anyone tell me the difference between "Single Version" and "Single Edit"?

Typically, a "Single Edit" is just that - an edit made for the 45 from the full-length track. A "Single Version" usually reflects some other variation from the album version; most usually in the mix, but possibly also an alternate vocal or instrumental take, etc. (Of course, a Single Version can also incorporate an edit, an early fade, etc.!) Hope this helps!

What? No quad mixes? That would make it complete. (I'm just being a pain in the arse)
So in another 5 years these will be released on a yet undiscovered music format.

I love the quad mixes too but it pisses me off that they're usually only available in super-deluxe editions of albums I've already got at super-deluxe inflated prices.

I don't know how many Eagles vinyl albums were mixed and issued in quad as vinyl quad issues were only around for a few years in the mid-1970s and surround sound only re-emerged on DVD-Audios and Super Audio CDs from circa 2000 and later on BDs.

I only have vinyl quad copies of "On the Border" and the two Souther Hillman Furay Band albums and the DVD-Audio 5.1 mix of "Hotel California".

For $180, it's a shame they couldn't have dug up a few more rarities/demos etc. for the last disc. Wonder why the Eagles are so stingy with bonus material?
