Rush Revisits "Hemispheres" For 40th Anniversary In Multiple Formats

BUY NOW FROM AMAZON.COM

The 1978 album Hemispheres from Canadian rock heroes Rush celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and UMe/Anthem is not letting the occasion go unnoticed.  The classic LP is being reissued on November 16 in a variety of formats including a 2CD/1BD/3LP Super Deluxe Edition, standalone 3LP and 2CD Deluxe Editions, and a Deluxe Digital Edition.

Hemispheres, Rush's sixth studio album, followed A Farewell to Kings, the band's U.K. breakthrough.  Recorded at Rockfield Studios with engineer Terry Brown, Hemispheres continued to push the progressive rock envelope with such dynamic tracks as the epic, sidelong, six-part "Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres" and nine-minute, twelve-part instrumental opus "La Villa Strangiato."  Neil Peart, Geddy Lee, and Alex Lifeson reached No. 14 on the U.K. Albums Chart and No. 47 on the U.S. Billboard 200.  A steady seller over the years, it was certified Platinum by the RIAA In 1993.

The Super Deluxe Edition of Hemispheres includes two CDs, an exclusive Blu-ray Audio disc, and three high-quality 180-gram black vinyl LPs. This configuration premieres the Abbey Road Studios remaster of Hemispheres from 2015 on CD, accompanied on the second CD by previously unreleased, newly restored bonus material from Rush's performance at the Netherlands' Pinkpop Festival in June 1979.  As the live engineer didn't record the opening minutes of Rush's performance of "2112" there, it's been substituted with a live take of the song from November 1978 in Tucson, Arizona.  The Blu-ray presents Hemispheres newly mixed from the multitracks into 5.1 surround, plus the 2015 remastered stereo version in 96/24 high resolution, and four bonus videos.  Three were shot in 1978 for promotional purposes, while the fourth is the live "La Villa Strangiato" from Pinkpop.  The three vinyl LPs have all of the audio from the CDs.

Additionally, the Super Deluxe Edition adds a 40-page hardcover book with previously unreleased photos and new artwork from original graphic designer Hugh Syme; an 11,000-plus-word essay by music historian Rob Bowman; a replica of the band's 1979 tour program; a 24x24" poster of the new Syme art; a replica ticket and cloth sticky pass from the Pinkpop Festival; and a replica Hemispheres iron-on patch.

The 2-CD Deluxe Edition digipak includes the Abbey Road-remastered Hemispheres album plus the Pinkpop Festival and Arizona performances plus a 28-page booklet with a condensed (5,700 words) version of Bowman's essay and the new Syme artwork.  The 3-LP Deluxe Edition has identical audio content but is housed in a deluxe slipcase with a 24-page booklet also featuring the edited version of Bowman's liner notes.  The vinyl discs themselves are in a double gatefold sleeve.  A digital download card of Syme's new 40th anniversary artwork is also included.  The Digital Deluxe Edition has the same audio contents as the 2CD and 3LP sets.

All iterations of Rush's Hemispheres - 40th Anniversary Edition will arrive on November 16 from UMe and Anthem.  You can peruse the track listing and pre-order links below!
