A Long Night Spent With You: Taking Back Sunday Celebrates 20th Anniversary on New Compilation "Twenty"

Taking Back Sunday is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion, they have embarked on a tour and are releasing a career retrospective collection.  Out today from Craft Recordings, the simply-titled Twenty gathers nineteen songs from the band's career and adds in two new studio recordings.

The alternative rock band was formed in Long Island, New York by guitarist Eddie Reyes in 1999.  The line-up has fluctuated a bit over the years but the main members over the past two decades have been Reyes (who actually just departed the group last year), Adam Lazzara (lead vocals), John Nolan (lead guitar, keyboards, vocals), Shaun Cooper (bass guitar) and Mark O'Connell (drums).  The group self-released three EPs before signing to Victory Records and debuting their first full-length album in 2002: Tell All of Your Friends.  One more album followed on Victory, 2004's Where You Want To Be, which climbed to #3 on the US charts.  Taking Back Sunday then moved to Warner Bros. and released Louder Now in 2006.  It would become the group's highest charting album, peaking at No. 2 in the U.S. and No. 18 in the U.K.  The band would release two more albums on Warner (2009's New Again - also a top 10 album -and 2011's Taking Back Sunday) before moving to Hopeless for 2014's Happiness Is (another top 10 record).  Their last album was also on Hopeless, 2016's Tidal Wave.

Twenty has selections from all seven of the group's studio albums. Among the tracks you will find 2004's "A Decade Under the Influence" (No. 16 Alternative), 2006's "Liar (It Takes One To Know One)" (No. 21 Alternative) and 2009's "Sink Into Me" (No. 10 Alternative).  Of course, the band's biggest hit is included: "MakeDamnSure" from the Louder Now Album.  That single peaked at No. 8 on the Alternative chart but also placed on the Billboard Hot 100, the now-discontinued Billboard Pop 100, and in the Top 40 on the U.K. Singles Chart.  Two new songs have been recorded especially for this compilation: "All Ready To Go" and "A Song For Dan."  Twenty is available today as a CD, digital download, or 2-LP set.  The LP comes in a handsome gatefold package.  Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound has handled the remastering.  For the LP, the lacquer cutting was done by Joe Nino-Hernes.

The U.S. leg of the band's world tour begins on January 29.  You can find full dates here.  In the meantime, if you would like to take a look back at Taking Back Sunday's career, we've got the tracklist and ordering links below for this new collection!

I think I speak of nearly everyone when I say

    WHO??

Actually, I love that they have a song called “Set Phasers to Stun.” For that reason alone, I will have to check them out.

I don't think you speak for anyone between the ages of 25 and 35.
