To commemorate the 35th anniversary of Ghostbusters' original 1984 theatrical debut, Sony Classical has announced a new reissue of Ghostbusters: Original Motion Picture Score featuring Elmer Bernstein's iconic themes. It's the first time the score has been in print since 2006, when Varese Sarabande's premiere, limited release became one of the year's fastest-selling score titles.
The 37-track anniversary edition has been newly mixed and remastered from the original multitracks and boasts new artwork, liner notes from Elmer Bernstein's son Peter, and four previously unreleased recordings! (As of press time, those unreleased recordings have not been confirmed.) It arrives on digital platforms for the first time ever (including standard-resolution and high-resolution download versions) on June 7. A CD configuration is set to be released the same day. For folks who prefer their soundtracks on wax, a 2-disc clear vinyl edition (with an ecto-slime filled label - recalling the popular Record Store Day single released for the 30th anniversary) will arrive on July 19.
Of the 35th anniversary edition, Peter Bernstein says: "As one of the original orchestrators on Ghostbusters, it has been very satisfying and also very moving to work on this soundtrack release 35 years down the road. It is a great movie with great music and we had a whole lot of fun creating it. I am very pleased to see it released in its original form."
Ghostbusters: Original Motion Picture Score arrives on CD and digital platforms on June 7, and the 2-LP edition will be released July 19. So mark your calendars and place those pre-orders with the links below!
