Suburban Sweetheart: Run Out Groove Announces Josh Rouse Reissue, Votes Open for Next Title

May 20, 2019 By Joe Marchese Leave a Comment

PRE-ORDER FROM RUN OUT GROOVE

It's time for another Run Out Groove vote!

The vinyl specialist label recently announced that a 2-LP Deluxe Edition of singer-songwriter Josh Rouse's debut Dressed Up Like Nebraska will be its next title.  This expanded edition adds four bonus tracks - three demos ("Suburban Sweetheart," "Flair," "Cannot Talk") and a live track ("Late Night Conversation"), all making their vinyl premieres - to the acclaimed 1998 album originally issued on Rykodisc's Slow River imprint.  That release is available for pre-order now through June 9 only.  The title will be pressed and numbered based on the initial orders.

Now, it's your turn to vote on the next title to get the deluxe ROG treatment.  Swamp Music is a proposed set from the legendary Swamp Fox himself, Tony Joe White of "Polk Salad Annie," "Rainy Night in Georgia," and "Willie and Laura Mae Jones" fame.  If voted to win, this 180-gram, 3-LP set will collect all of the demos, alternate versions, and rare tracks from Rhino Handmade's 2006 box set.  The newly-designed set (just dig that cover artwork to your left!) will premiere these soulful cuts on vinyl.

ROG then turns to the 1980s garage scene for The Del Fuegos' The Longest Day.  The debut of the Boston band formed by brothers Dan and Warren Zanes, The Longest Day was produced by Mitchell Froom (Elvis Costello, Los Lobos) and originally issued in 1984 on the Slash Records label.  It set the stage for the band's quartet of Billboard Mainstream Rock hits and for their championing by artists including the late Tom Petty.  Out of print on vinyl since the 1980s, ROG's reissue would be pressed on 180-gram colored vinyl at Record Industry and housed in a single-pocket tip-on jacket.

Your third option is of more recent vintage.  Cobra Starship's 2006 debut While the City Sleeps, We Rule the Streets blended rock, hip-hop, and synthpop influences into a cohesive whole, launching the band on a successful trajectory that would last through four studio albums and two Billboard Hot 100 hits until their breakup in 2015.  If voted to win, ROG will issue While the City Sleeps on vinyl for the first time with one bonus track, the Japan-exclusive cut "Send My Love to the Dancefloor, I'll See You in Hell (Hey Mr. DJ)" from the Amp'd Mobile Studio Sessions.  The album will be pressed at Record Industry on gold and black 180-gram colored vinyl.  It will be housed in a single-pocket tip-on jacket.

Head to Run Out Groove right now to place your orders for Josh Rouse's Dressed Up Like Nebraska, and to vote for the label's next limited, numbered vinyl release!
