Looking for something to make you dance this summer? Rhino's rolling out individual vinyl editions of three classic CHIC albums, and has also brought more than a dozen mixes and bonus tracks from the legendary disco band to digital channels for the first time.
CHIC co-founder, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and legendary producer Nile Rodgers oversaw remasters of CHIC's early classic work on CD and vinyl last year for a handsome box set. On June 21, the three main albums in that box - 1977's CHIC, 1978's C'est Chic and 1979's Risqué - will be made available for individual purchase on LP.
The recent digital release Rarities, Oddities and Exclusives showcases rare CHIC tracks toward the end of the band's original tenure and showcases some of the remixes that made them popular to new generations. You'll hear remixes of tracks like "Le Freak," "Good Times" and "I Want Your Love" as commissioned in the '80s, '90s and '00s for various singles and compilations (most famously 1987's U.K. Top 20 hit "Jack Le Freak" and a "MegaCHIC" medley commissioned in 1990 to promote a European compilation). The set even stretches into this decade with "Back In The Old School," a 2015 B-side to an album for Warner Bros. Records that never materialized. (That project was retooled into It's About Time and released last winter.)

So... I couldn’t care less about Chic. But, I am wondering about this digital release from Rhino. Is this a new thing they’re starting up?
They’ve done so many high priced, limited edition deluxe boxes, along other extremely limited editions in a series (Think the various Monkees super deluxe boxes, and the ongoing Grateful Dead live boxes and Dave’s Picks series) that inevitably sell out and that’s it.
No options to download most of these releases, and once the physical boxes/discs are sold out they’re gone for good. Why not do something similar for Dave’s Picks, the long gone Fillmore West 1969 box, or those Monkees SDEs?
This Chic collection is only 15 songs, not a box set or three disc live concert. i get that. But Rhino could be doing so much more for people who just want the music, but don’t need the fancy packaging, and perhaps missed out the original offerings.

I would like to thank you for the detailed annotation (which track is derived from which source) in many of your posts. So extremely helpful. I know that it takes some time to investigate these details and that not every release or reissue has this information in the booklet. So kudos to all the editors of The Second Disc!
Grateful.

I'd be interested to hear some Rodgers/Edwards demos. I enjoy the backing vocals on "Spacer", for instance, but the lead vocals are a letdown.
