Double Vision: Classic 1978 Foreigner Concert To Be Released on CD and Vinyl in July

July 3, 2019 By Sam Stone 1 Comment

PRE-ORDER CD FROM AMAZON.COM

In 1978, Foreigner was touring in support of their landmark self-titled debut.  One of the concerts - Live at the Rainbow '78 - was recorded and recently released on DVD and Blu-ray.  On July 12, audio from the concert will be available on CD and vinyl for the first time on the Rhino label.  Listeners who enjoy the digital experience can stream the album across platforms now, and you can find a Spotify link below.

Live at the Rainbow '78 captures Foreigner's classic line-up onstage at the legendary London venue on April 27, 1978, after the band's self-titled debut album had spent a year in the U.S. Top 20.  From the opening notes of "Long, Long Way From Home," the band served up a full-throttle set that included fan favorites and hit singles like "Feels Like The First Time" and "Cold As Ice."    Also part of the set were two tracks from the then-upcoming album, Double Vision - "Hot Blooded" and the title track - which would go on to be among the band's best-selling singles.  Forty years later, the show has been restored, remixed, and remastered for an optimum listening experience.

The concert will be presented on CD, and in a deluxe, 2-LP set in a newly designed gatefold sleeve.  The vinyl, CD, and currently available digital editions all follow the same sequence.  So no matter how you prefer to enjoy the show, you're promised an immersive experience that takes you back to the early days of the band that would go on to be one of the most popular and enduring of the classic rock era!

Both the CD and 2-LP editions of Live at the Rainbow '78 will arrive from Rhino on July 12.  We've included links to order those editions - along with  links for Eagle Rock's DVD and Blu-ray versions.  You can satiate your appetite until delivery day with the digital/streaming version, which can be enjoyed in the Spotify player below.

Sam Stone has been obsessed with catalog music ever since his folks gave him a Contours best-of collection for his fourth birthday. He quickly began to learn all he could about rock and roll history and beyond, a passion that continues to this day. Sam followed his love for music to the classroom, earning a B.A. from Towson University in Electronic Media and Film, concentrating on radio and audio production, as well as an M.A. in Audio Arts from Syracuse University. He has put his knowledge and skills to work at prominent reissue labels and is excited to bring his perspectives on catalog music to a broader audience. When he’s not writing for The Second Disc, Sam can be found researching about music, talking about Joni Mitchell’s career, and adding another box set to his Amazon wish list.

I wonder how the sound & song sequencing compare with the "King Biscuit Flower Hour" concert I recorded off FM Radio back around that time. The songs and the group sounded great!! Sounds like they do on here, too. May need to pick up the Blu-Ray soon.
