Bruce Springsteen has announced the latest volume in his long-running series of live concert downloads/CD-Rs available exclusively through Nugs.net. Bridge School: October 13, 1986 captures The Boss' memorable performance at Neil Young's Bridge School Concert at Mountain View, California's Shoreline Amphitheatre.
Backed by Danny Federici and Nils Lofgren, Springsteen's ten-song set was his first solo acoustic performance in over a decade. The setlist included favorites from his then-recent Born in the U.S.A. album ("Born in the U.S.A." in its acoustic debut, "Darlington County," "Dancing in the Dark," "Glory Days") as well as selections from Nebraska ("Mansion on the Hill") and The River ("You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch)" and "Hungry Heart"). He also performed his cover of Elvis Presley's "Follow That Dream" and his own Elvis-inspired "Fire," a hit for The Pointer Sisters and a single release from his Live 1975-1985 collection. Born in the U.S.A. outtake "Seeds" was also included in a live rendition on that set. For the closing "Hungry Heart," Springsteen was joined by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.
The performance was recorded by Don Pearson, who has mixed it with Tim Mulligan. The analog-to-digital transfer was done by John Nowland, and audio restoration by Jon Altschiller. Note that a short section of audio was missing from the master recording, so fan recordings and an alternate soundboard source were used to complete the set.
The show is available in MP3, Lossless, HD-Audio, and DSD digital formats as well as on a made-to-order custom CD-R. $2.00 from each purchase of this release, dedicated to the memory of Young's longtime manager Elliot Roberts (1943-2019), will be donated to the Bridge School.
