Irreverence was always the name of the game for The Bloodhound Gang. The Beastie Boys-inspired group took off with the rise of the alternative rock format, making appearances with Howard Stern, Ricki Lake, and Jenny McCarthy, and signing with major label Geffen Records. This Friday, the group's Geffen long-player Hooray for Boobies will see a new vinyl reissue from UMe. A streaming version is already available.
The album, released in the U.K. on October 4, 1999 and at home in the U.S. on February 29, 2000, yielded the international hit "The Bad Touch." The floor-filler was popular on MTV's Total Request Live and entered fourteen worldwide charts, making No. 1 on five of them. All told, five singles were released from the LP including "The Ballad of Chasey Lain," "Mope," "The Inevitable Return of the Great White Dope," and a cover of the Tandyn Almer-penned Association hit "Along Comes Mary."
UMe's upcoming edition will be reissued as 2 LPs, pressed on clear vinyl. This edition adds one bonus cut, "The Bad Touch (Bully Mix)," adding a hard-rock edge to the hit tune. It originally appeared on a 12-inch single. While a CD is not in the offing, a digital edition now available adds eleven more bonus tracks including various remixes (including The Pet Shop Boys' "Mope") and "Jackass" from the soundtrack of writer-director Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
With such tracks as "Magna Cum Nada" and "A Lap Dance is So Much Better When the Stripper Is Crying," it's clear that the offbeat music of The Bloodhound Gang isn't for everybody. But if you have fond memories of the zany group and their TRL heyday, these reissues just might be for you. You'll find the track listing with discographical annotation below!
