July 31 is sure to be a crate-digger's delight as Real Gone Music is set to release color vinyl reissues of two jazz and reggae classics:  Airto's Seeds on the Ground: The Natural Sounds of Airto and Errol Dunkley's roots classic Darling Ooh!

Seeds on the Ground was percussion master Airto's second album and his final release on Buddah.  Following sessions with the likes of Miles Davis, Paul Desmond, Wayne Shorter, and Astrud Gilberto, Airto began a solo career that often found him collaborating with vocalist Flora Purim.  Here, Airto, Purim, bassist Ron Carter, guitarist Severino de Oliveira, and multi-instrumentalist Hereto Pascoal deliver a fusion of bossa nova, free jazz, psych rock, and Brazilian folk music that remains exciting and beyond classification.  Long out of print on vinyl, Real Gone Music brings Seeds On The Ground: The Natural Sounds Of Airto back on shelves, pressed on ocean blue vinyl and housed in a replica of the original gatefold sleeve.  The pressing is limited to just 1,000 copies, so secure your copy soon!

Also arriving on July 31 is Errol Dunkley's Darling Ooh!  Dunkley was already a reggae star by the time this debut album was released in 1972.  With producer Sylvia Pottenger at the helm, Dunkley served up 12 cuts that are pure roots reggae.  Originally released as Presenting Errol Dunkley on the Gay Feet label, the album was repressed later on Trojan's Attack imprint as Darling Ooh!  with an expanded track list and distinctive artwork.  To make things more confusing for collectors, the album was also reissued by Trojan in 1979 with the shorter track listing and the Attack art.

For this new reissue, Real Gone Music has chosen to use the more complete 12-song track list and the alluring Attack art.  This issue has also been newly remastered by Mike Milchner at SonicVision.  And if that weren't enough, the album has been pressed on a limited root beer-hued vinyl pressing in a batch of only 1,000 copies.

Real Gone will also release a pair of albums that are a little closer to home, recorded by label co-founder and all-around reissue guru Gordon Anderson.  July 10 marks the release of Anderson's original, full-length solo album Moon Man.  With influences like Neil Young, Joy Division, Pavement, The Byrds, and Television, it's a rocking journey through the mind of singer-songwriter-musician Anderson.  He promises songs that "[tackle] drugs, drink, death, dogs, daughters, depression, and, yes, disease with mordant wit and manifest melancholy."  Indeed, Moon Man throws garage rock, power pop, country, psychedelia, a dash of sixties heaviness, and a blast of good, old-fashioned rock-and-roll into a blender, all accompanied by Anderson's accessible and semi-autobiographical (?) lyrics.  On the same day, his earlier collection of home recordings, The Poppies, will see its digital debut.  Moon Man will be available on CD and digital formats.

You can find more information about the upcoming Airto and Errol Dunkley reissues below (mark your calendars for July 31), plus a full track list for Gordon Anderson's Moon Man, due July 10.

Sam Stone has been obsessed with catalog music ever since his folks gave him a Contours best-of collection for his fourth birthday. He quickly began to learn all he could about rock and roll history and beyond, a passion that continues to this day. Sam followed his love for music to the classroom, earning a B.A. from Towson University in Electronic Media and Film, concentrating on radio and audio production, as well as an M.A. in Audio Arts from Syracuse University. He has put his knowledge and skills to work at prominent reissue labels and is excited to bring his perspectives on catalog music to a broader audience. When he’s not writing for The Second Disc, Sam can be found researching about music, talking about Joni Mitchell’s career, and adding another box set to his Amazon wish list.
