Jazz fans will no doubt be setting their sights on September 25, as Real Gone Music releases two lost gems of jazz: Kellee Patterson's Maiden Voyage , another slice of the seventies from the Black Jazz Records catalog, and Hemidemisemiquaver: Buried Treasures of the Raymond Scott Big Band, which celebrates an often overlooked period in the career of the Warner Bros. cartoon composer and electronic music trailblazer.
First up, the exciting reissue of Kellee Patterson's first album for the label, Maiden Voyage. The exceedingly rare album is full of tasteful vocal jazz, including the Herbie Hancock title track, Lani Hall's "You," a reworking of Don Sebesky's "Soul Lady" renamed "Soul Daddy," and more. Backed by John Heard on bass, Ernest Van Trease on piano, and Ray Charles sideman George Harper on flute, you can't go wrong with this classic LP. RGM will release the album on both CD and vinyl. The original stereo mix has been remastered by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision, with lacquers cut by Clint Holley and Dave Polster at Well Made Music, and the package will feature new liner notes by Pat Thomas, author of Listen, Whitey! The Sights and Sounds of Black Power 1965-1975. Real Gone Music will also press up a limited edition "clear with black swirl" color variant of the LP, available exclusively from the label's online shop. UPDATE 8/12: The subscription service Vinyl Me Please has announced their own exclusive "orange with black swirl" color vinyl edition, limited to just 500 units. This is available to members and non-members alike, though members do get a slight discount.
On the same day, Real Gone Music will turn back the clock to the big band era with a collection of music by Raymond Scott, best known for his contributions to Warner Bros. cartoons and as an electronic music pioneer. But there's another chapter to this story, and this release chronicles the first multiracial radio big band, the "CBS Big Band'' whose ranks included legends Ben Webster, Cozy Cole, and Charlie Shavers. Now, the group will be celebrated with a 26-track CD set containing primarily unreleased radio shows recorded by Scott and recently restored by Gavin Ross at Steady Studio in Burbank, CA. The package features photos from the Scott family's archives as well as liner notes penned by Scott historian Skip Heller, who co-produced this volume with the bandleader's son, Stan Warnow.
So mark those calendars and place your pre-orders for Kellee Patterson's Maiden Voyage, and Hemidemisemiquaver: Buried Treasures of the Raymond Scott Big Band due on September 25.

THIS is the label that MUST re-issue the classic Chico Hamilton/The Master LP, where the great Drummer is backed by Little Feat!
