Matchbox Twenty is looking back with a new box set. On November 20, the band will release the simply-titled 20, a new 7-LP vinyl collection containing all five of their studio albums plus Exile on Mainstream Revisited, a "reimagined" version of the 2007 compilation Exile on Mainstream now featuring numerous rare tracks making their first appearance in the vinyl format.
The box includes:
- Yourself or Someone Like You (1996);
- Mad Season (2000; 2 LPs, new to vinyl);
- More Than You Think You Are (2002, new to vinyl);
- Exile on Mainstream Revisited (2007/2020; 2 LPs); and
- North (2012, new to vinyl).
The albums in 20 were all met with tremendous success. 1996's Yourself or Someone Like You reached 12x Platinum status in the United States and yielded hit singles including "Push," "3 AM," and "Real World." Mad Season, from 2000, was hotly-anticipated and entered (and peaked) the Billboard 200 at No. 3 while earning a 4x Platinum certification. Its lead single "Bent" went to No. 1 on the Hot 100, Adult Top 40, and Mainstream Top 40 charts; "If You're Gone" also topped the Adult Top 40 and reached No. 5 on the Hot 100 and No. 4 on the Mainstream Top 40. More Than You Think You Are (2002) edged the band in a more rock-oriented direction after the pop sounds of Mad Season and peaked within the top ten of the Billboard 200. Matchbox Twenty's final album with guitarist Adam Gaynor, it yielded three successful singles including "Disease," "Unwell," and "Bright Lights." The band's last album to date, 2012's North, entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1; lead single "She's So Mean" performed within the U.S. top 40.
The 2007 compilation Exile on Mainstream, which originally featured seven new tracks plus fan favorites and hits, has been rethought for this box. It includes all seven of those recordings (including the cover of The Kinks' "Come Dancing," originally a download exclusive) but the hits have been dropped in favor of eight rarities from various international and one-off releases.
While the Orlando, Florida-formed, Rob Thomas-fronted band hasn't recorded an album since 2012, they remain committed to touring; a 2020 tour co-headlining with The Wallflowers was delayed (hopefully) to 2021 as a result of COVID-19. The 20 box set is limited to 5,000 individually numbered units. It includes a 12 x 12" 24-page booklet including photos, liner notes, and a career retrospective by Billboard journalist Melinda Newman.
20 is currently exclusive to Matchbox 20's online store, and pre-orders are open now at the link below for its November 20 release.

Larry Davis says
Dunno about Matchbox 20...I think they lost credibility because radio took a liking to them, espesh AC, and cool music mags avoided them like the plague...yet they retained a loyal touring fanbase, so kudos on them...same for Rob solo...as for their music, they are just OK, some tracks pretty cool, but mostly just a guilty pleasure...what they did with this set was good choices, like with Exile's rarities...no CD though...if one was available, I'd buy one at a price drop...on an unrelated note, was worth nothing (I think) but I found a CD copy of the debut and the music on the CD was not that album but was instead one by Canadian band the Tea Party...I got rid of it when I concluded I was not gonna get anything for it...

That’s fantastic about the Tea Party! Their album Edges if Twilight is one of my favorites.

Has anyone received the box set yet?
