"Cream was a shambling circus of diverse personalities who happened to find that catalyst together...any one of us could have played unaccompanied for a good length of time. So you put the three of us together in front of an audience willing to dig it limitlessly, we could have gone on forever...And we did...just going for the moon every time we played."
That's how Eric Clapton described his time in one of rock's first supergroups. And while Cream released four fine albums during their four years together - Fresh Cream, Disraeli Gears, Wheels of Fire, and Goodbye - it's onstage that the band really got the chance to shine with extended blues jams, solos, and psychedelic twists and turns.
This Friday, April 23, UMe/Polydor will release one shining example of the band's onstage might, Goodbye Tour: Live At The Forum 1968, as a limited edition, 2-LP set on blue vinyl. Released last year as part of the 4-CD Goodbye Tour: Live 1968 box set, this marks the first official standalone release of the landmark Los Angeles gig from October 19, 1968.
The concert was mastered from the original 1968 analog mix reels by Kevin Reeves at Universal Mastering, Nashville, TN. The 2-LP set is available exclusively from uDiscover Music's online storefront. You can place your preorder here and find the complete track listing below!

Can you comment on the performances on the box? Are the multple performances of the same songs different in ways that matter, so that similar set lists don't make for similar results?
For instance, I have both versions of Derek & The Dominos Live at the Fillmore gigs and there are some differences in the distinct performances of the same song from different sets, enough so that I actually have preferences of one version of "Let It Rain" over the other, for instance. I'm curious if Cream took a similar approach to distinguish their performances.

Also a big Cream fan and I’ve heard really mixed reviews on the sound quality of the box. What did you think?

the box set sounds incredible. the royal albert hall is is the best its gonna be. the multi tracks are not in the atlantic vaults, for the 3 shows these were the the mix down tapes . the thing with cream was theyd would have the intro and then the middle part was always different. the most radical is always spoonful. not one sounds ever the same. now wheres the wheels of fire deluxe edition. ALL the remaining live tracks from the march 68 fillmore west and winterland shows. studio outs with early ibc takes (white room no wah wah, backing tracks etc). they missed the 50th anniversary 3 years ago. if you dont own the box you should.
