Tell me what you want, what you really, really want...
If what you want is a 25th anniversary expanded edition of the Spice Girls' 1996 debut Spice, you're in luck. On October 29, Virgin/UMC (U.K.) and EMI will reissue Spice on 2 CDs and a digital "eAlbum."
The expanded Spice 25, curated by the Spice Girls, features the original album on the first CD plus a second disc of twelve bonus tracks. These encompass a sampling of period remixes and single versions plus five previously unreleased tracks: three demos, one outtake, and a never-before-heard Unlimited Groove Mix of "Love Thing."
Mel B (Scary Spice), Mel C (Sporty Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), and Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) reinvigorated the girl-group landscape with their debut single "Wannabe" and debut album Spice (on which "Wannabe" was featured). Upon its release on November 4, 1996, Spice ascended to spend fifteen non-consecutive weeks atop the U.K. Album Chart and over a year in the top 40. Spice became an international smash, topping the U.S. Billboard 200 and going to No. 1 in another dozen countries. Since 1996, it's sold more than 23 million copies and has been certified 10x Platinum in the United Kingdom and 7x Platinum in the United States.
Four singles were released from Spice, all of which went to No. 1 in the U.K.: "Wannabe" (also No. 1 in the U.S.), "Say You'll Be There" (No. 3 U.S.), "2 Become 1" (No. 4 U.S.), and the double A-side "Mama" and "Who Do You Think You Are." The album set the stage for 1997's Spiceworld and the similarly-titled film Spice World which broke box office records to earn the biggest opening week ever for a British film in the U.K. and the highest-ever Super Bowl weekend opening in the U.S., too. Spice World overcame negative reviews to become a bona fide cult classic. The group only released one more studio album, 2000's Forever, which didn't feature Geri Halliwell. She returned to record new material for 2007's Greatest Hits and for a 2007-2008 tour. The Spice Girls reunited again for a 2019 tour, this time sans Victoria Beckham.
The expanded Spice set comes in an A5 hardback book format and contains a set of six Spice Girls postcards based on photos taken in Paris, 1996 by Tim Roney. The original album is also available on cassettes and exclusive colored vinyl editions, themed to each Spice Girl, available through the Spice Girls' online store. Exclusive vinyl editions of the original album were also briefly available; they sold out shortly after being placed on sale. Among the digital formats offered will be a Dolby Atmos/Apple Spatial Audio mix, simulating surround sound.
In the press release, Emma comments, "From the first wannabe baby steps to conquering the whole world with a team of Spices, thank you doesn't seem enough to all of you who have supported us, followed in our footsteps, walked in our great big shoes and who have shared our dreams. It's been 25 years of pure magic. Spice Girls forever!!!" Geri adds, "To our diehard and loyal fans; without you there is no us - sending endless love and gratitude. Whoever you are, whatever your dreams - live them, be them. The Spice Girls motto is testament to that."
Melanie C observes, "25 years, wow! I have so many wonderful memories of writing, recording, promoting and touring this album and so many people to thank. This is the record that set us off on our incredible journey. A huge thank you to our fans and family all around the World. Thank you for always being there with your unrelenting support and making our dreams come true. My love and gratitude always." Melanie B notes, "All I ever wanted was to be accepted and to make everyone around me - gay, straight, brown, black, shy or loud like me - to feel they can celebrate who they are and to be free to be themselves. All I hope - 25 years on - is that message has been heard loud and clear. It's true that in the end love IS all you need so I thank everyone who has ever bought a Spice Girls record or stood in the rain to greet us or got dressed up in pink, in a tracksuit, a ginger wig, a leopard print catsuit or put on Vic's iconic pout!"
Victoria concludes, "We couldn't let 25 years pass without thanking the fans for their incredible support. There are so many people who have played a part in the success of the Spice Girls throughout the years, you know who you are and we thank you."

Has it been remastered?
Joe Marchese says
The press release didn’t include remastering information but I’m certain that it has been.
Frankie says
Surely they won’t use a 25-year-old master, would they?
Larry Davis says
Like em, guilty pleasure for sure, but I have to say, even though they paved the way for UK girl groups to follow, both Girls Aloud & Sugababes were much better musically...the Spices were more R&B while GA & SB were more Britpop rock & roll & edgy innovative dancepop as well as innovative production and arrangements...Xenomania were like a punk Motown production house...they had the 5 Girls Aloud sing all their songs solo, then Brian Higgins & Miranda Cooper would take the best sung lines & piece them together like audio sonic jigsaw puzzles...the Spices, while fun, were never actually innovative, original or creative or even much rock & roll...I would still buy the 2CD Spice though...
