Alongside a forthcoming documentary on her 30+ year career, Sheryl Crow and UMe will issue a double-disc companion soundtrack that serves as an in-depth overview and the place to hear her newest material.
Sheryl, which premiered at South by Southwest this past weekend and will air on Showtime starting May 6, will chronicle Crow's fascinating rise and the trials she endured through every step of her colorful career. A hardworking session vocalist who spent much of 1988 as Michael Jackson's duet partner on his Bad world tour, Crow came into her own with 1993's debut album Tuesday Night Music Club, featuring a series of crack session players like Bill Bottrell, David Baerwald and the late, great Kevin Gilbert. Controversy arose at the time when some of the musicians expressed consternation that an informal jam session of friends developed into a starring vehicle for Crow - a topic that will no doubt be covered in the film. Nonetheless, the record spun off the Top 5 hits "All I Wanna Do" and "Strong Enough" and won Crow three Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Best New Artist.
Over time, Crow developed into a winning pop performer in her own right, racking up more pop hits like "If It Makes You Happy," "Everyday is a Winding Road," "My Favorite Mistake" and "Soak Up the Sun." She also picked up an additional six Grammys and lived a life of highs (adopting two sons in 2007 and 2010) and lows (treatments for breast cancer and benign brain tumors). Her latest album, 2019's Threads, featured guest appearances from the likes of Eric Clapton, Sting, Stevie Nicks, Willie Nelson, Keith Richards, St. Vincent and even a posthumous appearance from Johnny Cash. (Crow stated at the time she intended it to be her last proper album.)
The Sheryl soundtrack features singles and deep cuts drawn mostly from Threads and her first four studio albums for A&M, plus country-flavored albums Detours (2008) and Be Myself (2017), several live tracks (including duets with Sarah McLachlan and Jason Isbell) and three brand-new songs: "Forever," "Still the Same" and "Live with Me."
The Sheryl companion album will arrive day and date with the documentary. Pre-order it below and check out the full track list.
