Universal Music Enterprises is teaming with the estate of Bob Marley through the whole month of June to release four new digital titles in honor of the 45th anniversary of Exodus, one of his many acclaimed albums with The Wailers.

Recorded in London as Marley stayed out of his native Jamaica following a failed assassination attempt, Exodus combined traditional reggae style with blues and soul, spinning a web of politically conscious and uplifting songs along the way. "Jamming," "Waiting in Vain," "Three Little Birds," "One Love/People Get Ready," and the title track remain staples of Marley's catalogue during his tenure on Island Records.

As such, Exodus has been reissued several times before, leading to the framework of this month's digital activity. A double disc deluxe edition issued in 2001 paired Exodus with B-sides, rare remixes, session tracks with producer Lee "Scratch" Perry (including the single side "Punky Reggae Party"), and a handful of tracks recorded during a multi-night stand at London's Rainbow Theatre the week the album arrived in stores. In 2017, for its 40th anniversary, UMe released Exodus 40: The Movement Continues..., a triple-disc set featuring the original album, a "restatement" edition curated by Marley's eldest son Ziggy, and a full disc's worth of performances at the Rainbow.

Now, three of the four Rainbow sets, recorded between the 1st and 3rd of June in 1977, are being issued in full - one on each Friday in June.  (The June 4 set was digitally issued in 2020, in honor of what would have been Marley's 75th birthday.) The first half of each set list varies from night to night, and The Wailers' arrangements remain fluid.

With all this live material superseding previous deluxe editions, a definitive 45th anniversary edition of Exodus gets a digital release on June 24. Its 20 bonus tracks include edits and mixes of "Jamming," "Exodus," "Punky Reggae Party," and more, down to a few live tracks from the Rainbow that were edited for Exodus 40. As a further treat for collectors, it also boasts previously unreleased alternate versions of album tracks "Natural Mystic" and "The Heathen."
