Over ten years after Pink Floyd celebrated Dark Side of the Moon in the expansive 3CD/2DVD/1BD Immersion Edition, the 1973 landmark album is returning for its 50th anniversary in a new box set. The Dark Side of the Moon: 50 Years, from Pink Floyd Records, carries over the original Dark Side (in various mixes) and a 1974 live concert from the previous Immersion box while adding a vinyl component and new Dolby Atmos mix. Due on March 24, the 2CD/2LP/2BD/1DVD set contains:
- Remastered original album on CD in gatefold sleeve with 12-page booklet;
- Remastered original album on 180-gram vinyl in gatefold sleeve with original stickers and poster;
- Remastered The Dark Side of the Moon: Live at Wembley 1974 on CD in gatefold sleeve with 12-page booklet;
- Remastered The Dark Side of the Moon: Live at Wembley 1974 on 180-gram vinyl with two posters featuring designs by Gerald Scarfe and Ian Emes;
- Original album (5.1 and high-resolution stereo mixes) on Blu-ray;
- Original album (5.1 and remastered stereo mixes) on DVD;
- Original album (Dolby Atmos and high-resolution stereo mixes) on Blu-ray; and
- Two replica seven-inch singles ("Money" b/w "Any Colour You Like" and "Us and Them" b/w "Time").
Like the original album, the Live at Wembley 1974 concert (which premiered as part of the 2011 campaign) has been newly remastered for its appearance here. It's the only additional audio supplement here, other than the four single versions which are only included as replica 45s. Alan Parsons' early mix of Dark Side from the Immersion box has been dropped, along with its other demos and live tracks. The original four-channel quad mix also appears to be gone. The new box does not repeat the video component of the prior box encompassing "concert screen films," a couple of 1972 live tracks from Brighton, and the 30th anniversary edition EPK/documentary. While there's still some swag in the new set (replica pamphlet and invitation to the preview of Dark Side at the London Planetarium), it appears to be much more minimal, with no scarves or marbles in sight. A 160-page hardcover photo book from Thames and Hudson plus a complete 76-page songbook of the original album round out the collection.
Live at Wembley will also be receiving a standalone release on CD and LP. The November 1974 show at the 12,500-capacity Empire Pool (now known as OVO Arena Wembley) differs considerably from its studio counterpart, with unique instrumental jamming and a looser, rougher, and more spontaneous sound. Venetta Fields and Carlena Williams joined the band on backing vocals.
The 2023 remaster of "Brain Damage" is currently streaming everywhere. Cue up those old copies of The Wizard of Oz, and look for the latest iteration(s) of this prog-rock landmark - and indeed, one of the biggest-selling albums of all time - on March 24 from Pink Floyd Records.

Really, no marbles?
But seriously, this is a pointless repackaging of content most Floyd fans already have. There is not one second of unreleased content here, other than the Atmos mix. Fans of piles of paper may be thrilled, though.

I've bought all the Immersions and Deluxes over the past 10 years. Going to have to pass on this though, unless it drops drastically in price.
I have the Immersion box which, apart from lacking vinyl, was vastly superior to this (at half the price). However, I have an excellent pressing of the James Guthrie remaster on vinyl, so no need for this new vinyl.
The Atmos mix would be nice, but I would bet my mortgage it will be available via streaming - also likely they will release it separately once this has been out for a while.
The book and live vinyl are available separately, though I can't say I'm particularly interested in either. All in all, this is a grossly overpriced product for anyone who has the Immersion box.

one of my favorite albums of all time...NOT impressed.How about some unreleased Studio ,Live ,Demo's ETC.Perhaps you should check in with Robert Fripp on how to do a Box set right..When i first heard a box was coming out for the Aniversary i was thrilled..The 74 show has been around for decades..I bet the Godfather label put's out something nice for us Hardcores...
Bob Romano says
Hard pass on this one. I have the original box and apart from the 5.1 and Quad mixes, which I have ripped to a hard drive, that thing is just collecting dust.
Michael says
This album is indeed a classic and I've owned the various remasters over the years - the most recent being the Analogue Productions SACD Hybrid. So, how can a remaster from only a few years ago be improved upon? Or indeed in the last ten years? Yes, technology improves but I doubt that this will sound better than the 2003 30th Anniversary edition, the 2011 Remaster or the 2019 remaster.
Peter Dix says
And at 65 will my ears be able to tell the difference anyway. I've got vinyl, SACD etc etc. £200+ for something I've already got most of already. Sadly it's a no from me.
Steve Bruun says
Will the standalone Live at Wembley set include the whole show, including Echoes and the embryonic Animals tracks? Or will it just be the Dark Side portion of the concert?
TomM says
It appears to be just the DSOTM songs.
