In fall 2022, Motley Crüe took to stages across North America for the band's first major concert tour in seven years. Co-headlining with Def Leppard, the group played to packed houses. Future dates have been mooted for both Europe and the U.S. in 2023-2024, and while frontman Vince Neil has insisted that they will remain a touring unit only, BMG is giving fans an opportunity to revisit past studio triumphs. Crücial Crüe: The Studio Albums 1981-1989 arrives February 17. The 5-LP limited edition box set features the band's first five platinum-charting albums pressed on colored vinyl; a 5-CD equivalent will also be released. Both editions are limited to just 10,000 copies of each, worldwide.
Crücial Crüe: The Studio Albums 1981-1989 includes:
- Too Fast for Love (1981) White/Black Splatter)
- Shout at the Devil (1983) (Yellow/Black Splatter)
- Theatre of Pain (1985) (Hot Pink Magenta/Black Splatter)
- Girls, Girls, Girls (1987) (Cyan Blue / Black Splatter); and
- Feelgood (1989) (Coke Bottle Green / Oxblood Splatter).
The vinyl LPs will be housed in a solid black slipcase with foil imprint; these color variants will only be available in this box set.
As Motley Crüe has only released nine studio albums - the most recent of which was 2008's Saints of Los Angeles, their final release to date - the new box contains more than half of their discography and all of their platinum-certified albums. It opens with Too Fast for Love which introduced the world to the heavy stylings of Vince Neil, guitarist Mick Mars, bassist Nikki Sixx, and drummer Tommy Lee. Though it didn't chart any higher than No. 77 on the Billboard 200, the LP became a fan favorite with such familiar tracks as "Live Wire," "Public Enemy No. 1," and "Take Me to the Top." Shout at the Devil (1983) reflected the band's rise in popularity, reaching the top twenty of the Billboard 200 and yielding the hits "Looks That Kill," "Too Young to Fall in Love," and the title track.
Theatre Of Pain (1985) moved the band from straight-ahead metal to a glam-influenced sound. Debuting at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, it included the crossover hits "Smokin' in the Boys Room" and "Home Sweet Home." Their next effort would be even bigger. 1987's Girls, Girls, Girls opened at No. 2; the title track went to No. 12 on the Hot 100, eclipsing the No. 16 placement of "Smokin' in the Boys Room." The final album in the box set, 1989's Dr. Feelgood, remains Motley Crüe's only No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200; it remained on the chart for a staggering 109 weeks. The title song shot to No. 6 on the Hot 100 and "Without You" went to No. 8; "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)" and "Kickstart My Heart" weren't far behind at No. 19 and No. 27, respectively.

10 LP Set? I count 5 vinyls only?
Jackson Burnett says
I suspect that if this really were a 10-LP set, they'd have to master the albums at half-speed and press them on two discs per album. But in this case, it's most likely just a typo.
