When you say there are "original" songs on the new Van Morrison album think you could be mistaken. Van has slightly altered the lyrics to three songs but they ain't originals. And how songs by Don Gibson and Hank Williams can be "skiffle" is really stretching things! Whilst in the sleeve notes Jimmy Page seems to think the songs on the album are traditional folk songs "passed on from family to family" Err.."Cotton Fields" was written in 1940 by Lead Belly, "Oh Lonesome Me" written by Don Gibson in 1958, "No Other Baby" written by Dickie Bishop in 1957 amongst others. The only connection with "skiffle" on this album is Sticky Wicket on washboard.

I have come to love Van Morrison's latest releases. Even more than his old stuff. To bad that some hate him for political reasons.
