Ahead of their Peace Out Tour in 2023-2024 - closing a significant chapter in the book of one of the best (or perhaps the most) American rock bands - Aerosmith will issue a brand-new career spanning compilation across multiple formats in August.
The simply-titled Greatest Hits shares a name with the group's first compilation, issued back in 1980, but it's being billed as an "ultimate" product, and packaged as an entirely different set. It is, of course, the first compilation issued since the band transferred albums and material released by Columbia Records between 1973 and 2012 over to Universal Music Group for distribution in 2021. (Universal previously controlled the group's output on Geffen Records issues between 1985 and 1994, and that same year issued an archival rehearsal set recorded before the group even had a record deal.)
Up to 44 tracks - hit singles, album cuts and a few rare edits - will be included in the package, covering all of the group's albums of original material featuring the classic lineup of frontman Steven Tyler, guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton, and drummer Joey Kramer. The pool of tracks will be divided on an 18-track highlights CD, a 10-track LP and a 20-song double vinyl album. Exclusively packaged versions of the CD, 2LP and 4LP variants will be sold on the band's web store, as well as exclusive merchandise bundles. Confusingly, even the 3CD version appears to be a cut down of the full list, omitting opening track "Mama Kin." (UPDATE (6/28/2023): Universal's Japanese label will additionally offer a deluxe 6CD set that features the three discs of the deluxe set, two new live compilations culled from five unreleased shows, and a third live disc recorded in Japan in 2011.)
Greatest Hits takes off August 18, weeks before the Peace Out Tour (featuring all but Kramer in the mix) arrives in arenas through North America. Additionally, UMe will begin physically distributing a dozen newly remastered Aerosmith titles first released by Columbia on CD and vinyl in the coming weeks. Find links for all of those titles below.

'Confusingly, even the 3CD version appears to be a cut down of the full list, omitting opening track "Mama Kin."'
This could just be an omission or typo of some sort. The official store still states 44 tracks for the 3-CD set even though only 43 are listed.
John Fell says
Supposedly according to CDJapan the Live in Japan 2011 disc is the audio from the Rock For The Rising Sun dvd. In addition, to make makers more confusing, Japan is offering the single cd version of Greatest Hits with each of the live discs separately i.e Greatest Hits + Live Disc 1, Greatest Hits + Live Disc 2 and Greatest Hits + Live In Japan 2011.
John Phillips says
I purchased Toys in the Attic and ripped it to my iPhone, and as far as I can tell it’s the same remaster from 1994. I set my volume at the same level and the “remaster” is not louder. Hopefully when the deluxe editions come they will get a proper remaster, maybe a remix or even a two channel quad mix. Also, the “booklet” is the same layout as it was in 1994.
