Jethro Tull and remixer Steven Wilson are joining forces for another anniversary edition of an album in their discography, this time tackling 1982's The Broadsword and The Beast.
Available September 1, this 40th anniversary "Monster Edition" will feature Wilson's new mixes of the original album, a slew of rare and previously unreleased recordings, demos, early mixes and a 1982 live set in Germany - all available in stereo across five CDs and in hi-resolution stereo and surround mixes on three DVDs. (A vinyl edition will include the remixed album, the associated recordings, and all the demos on four LPs.) The box set will also include a 164-page book offering new interviews with band members, cover artist Iain McCaig and engineer Leigh Mantle, track-by-track annotations from frontman Ian Anderson, a recreation of the original 1982 tour program and more.
A sort of compromise between the more electronic and synth-driven approach of 1980's A and the classic, flute-heavy sound of their best-known progressive works, The Broadsword and The Beast featured an amended Tull line-up in which Anderson, longtime guitarist Martin Barre and bassist Dave Pegg (who'd joined shortly before the recording of A) were augmented by keyboardist Peter-John Vettese and drummer Gerry Conway. (Save for the drum stool, this line-up would remain somewhat consistent through 1986.) The album earned a silver disc from the British Phonographic Industry for its sales, the first to do so since 1978's Heavy Horses; Broadsword also matched Horses' Top 20 peak on the U.S. album charts. No less a prog authority than former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett has called the album one of his all-time favorites.
Among the bonus material are early masters and rough mixes of album tracks from the recording sessions, outtakes that were released on single B-sides and various rarities compilations in the '80s and '90s, 10 unreleased demos and a complete show from a European tour in 1982. (Fans may remember the over-the-top tour which found stages redecorated as pirate ships; Anderson later called the venture "very silly," and no such theatrics would really take place with the band since.)
After a lengthy period of inactivity during the 2010s, Anderson revived Tull with 2022's The Zealot Gene and this past April's RökFlöte - their first LPs of new material since the '90s. The newly unsheathed Broadsword looks to be another solid entry for fans of Tull's archaeological work and Wilson's detailed remixes. You can pre-order it and check out the full track list below.

Dave Bradley says
On DVD 1, there's the stereo 96/24 and the flat transfer 96/24.
Is the flat transfer the original album mix and the first one the new mix ?
Mark says
I wish Jethro Tull would discover blu-ray. The 3-DVD content could conveniently fit on a single blu-ray disc with plenty of room to spare.

Amazon.ca is advertising the 5CD 3 DVD set of Broadsword as available now. Expected delivery if ordered today (July 21st 2023) is Aug 6-7 2023. I assume this information is incorrect since the release date is Sept 1 2023.
Can someone verify this information if possible? Thanks.
