Eagle-eyed vinyl shoppers might have noticed a steady stream this year of reissues from the storied Atlantic Records catalogue, with titles including Dusty Springfield's Dusty in Memphis, Otis Redding's Otis Blue, Aretha Franklin's Lady Soul, and Phil Collins' No Jacket Required. Today, the label unveiled the full slate of 90 vinyl reissues commemorating Atlantic's 75th anniversary - as well as special campaigns coming from Vinyl Me, Please and Acoustic Sounds.
The Atlantic 75 collection has been curated by label Chairman and CEO Craig Kallman, revisiting selections from across Atlantic's rich story. Almost all of these releases have been pressed on clear vinyl and bear an "Atlantic 75" sticker; future titles in the series include Led Zeppelin's IV and Coldplay's A Head Full of Dreams. But those releases aren't all that's coming to mark the occasion. Atlantic has also teamed with Acoustic Sounds for a multi-year program of titles to be available on 18-gram, 45 RPM black vinyl as well as on stereo hybrid SACD. These include multiple titles from such artists as Genesis, Phil Collins, Foreigner, John Coltrane, Buffalo Springfield, Ray Charles, and Yes.
A partnership is also being launched with the Vinyl Me, Please record club. On October 19, VMP will launch the first-ever label collection for its Record of the Month titles, with every LP bearing the Atlantic logo. Essentials subscribers will receive Ray Charles' In Person (1959), while Classics subscribers will get The Mar-Keys and Booker T. and The M.G.'s' Back to Back (1967). Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor (2006) fills the Hip-Hop track, John Prine's Sweet Revenge (1973) takes the Country slot, and Stone Temple Pilots' No. 4 (1999) is the Rock pick.
A number of digital-only Atlantic remixes have also hit streaming and download services. The press release for the Atlantic 75 campaign promises, "Swiss-South African It-girl TDJ Nora En Pure adds a new spin to Donna Lewis' record-breaking 'I Love You Always Forever.' DJ Spinna delivers a funky groove to Roberta Flack's 'Killing Me Softly,' while producer Ben Lieband submits his own version of the iconic torch song. Italian DJ Luca Olivotto owns his fresh take on YES' 'Owner of a Lonely Heart,' which topped the Beatport House Charts earlier this spring. New Jersey enters the house with DJ Sliink's flip of Gym Class Heroes' 'Cupid's Chokehold.' Nomak revives a deep cut from Brandy with his take on 'What About Us.'

Are there specific dates for the Acoustic Sounds releases?
zally says
over and over the same old reissues. 90% can be found used and cheap. as for the others no new fans and collectors have bought these for the last time years ago
BillyD says
There's simply a glut of the same things being pressed by various companies. Some in very egregious condition.
This didn't happen very often in the past when record companies kept backstock.
Now the same titles dribble out every year in 'limited editions' instead of one organisation being responsible for their product.
I'm waiting for the return of cut-out bins.
Chuck says
The Acoustic Sound series are audiophile. Two discs 45 rpm
plasket says
But that's only 74 titles, not 90.
More of the Acoustic Sounds titles have been revealed on their website, for a total of 70. But this list may be tentative, as they stated they'd replace a title if they couldn't find a good enough tape.
I'm wondering how jarring the side breaks on side-long pieces (Close to the Edge, Supper's Ready, Ole) are. And I have to assume that the Genesis albums are the original mixes?
Brad Sonmor says
I was hoping that The Blues Brothers soundtrack and Briefcase Full Of Blues would be part of the Analogue Productions series. Supposedly Chad is announcing more titles at a later date. Fingers crossed….
Galley says
It’s great to see so many Atlantic titles on SACD! Analogue Productions has always been my favorite audiophile label.
Sean Patrick Anglum says
Sad to NOT see any of the great releases of the (Young) Rascals, a group that kept Atlantic relevant to rock'n'rollers in the mid-to-late 60s. Once Upon a Dream , Freedom Suite, or even the Time Peace compilation would suffice. Too much to ask for all of their releases, I fear. Pity.
Scott says
My feelings exactly. Time Peace needs a reissue/remastering...too good to not be included here. I thought for sure it would be. Hope it gets added.
