Queen's electrifying 1981 Montreal concert is returning on May 10 in a variety of formats. Queen Rock Montreal, recently released to IMAX cinemas, will arrive in 2CD; 3LP black vinyl; Queen Store-exclusive 3LP transparent blue vinyl; and double 4K UHD and Blu-ray editions from EMI and Hollywood Records (audio) and Mercury Studios (video).
Queen Rock Montreal was shot at the 18,000-capacity Montreal Forum on November 24 and November 25, 1981 as Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon were wrapping up the band's tour for The Game. The band performed their then-recent smashes "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Another One Bites the Dust" as well as such inevitable favorites as "We Will Rock You," "Somebody to Love," "Killer Queen," "Under Pressure," "We Are the Champions," and "Bohemian Rhapsody."
The original concerts were filmed by director Saul Swimmer using then-modern Double Anamorphic 35mm which would allow the footage to be projected on a five-story-high screen. Tensions between Queen and Swimmer threatened to derail the proceedings but instead both parties spurred each other on to create a truly lasting document of the band at its arguable peak.
The upcoming package is available in both audio and video formats. The 4K UHD video version offers 26 tracks; the 2CD and 3LP packages have two additional tracks, the Brian May-penned "Flash" and "The Hero" from the film Flash Gordon. The 4K set also offers Queen's famed 1985 Live Aid set. The original 35mm film negative was scanned and examined frame-by-frame to remove dirt, damage, and any splices, resulting in the sharpest and most high-quality presentation of the film ever. The audio for both Queen Rock Montreal and the Live Aid set are heard in Dolby Atmos for the first time.
The first disc of the 4K or Blu-ray set has Queen Rock Montreal in full frame as it was originally intended to be seen. The Live Aid performance is presented in upscaled HD. The second 4K disc has Queen Rock Montreal in widescreen format and a bonus featurette with Live Aid rehearsal footage. Both the full-frame and widescreen presentations can be displayed on the 4K discs in either HDR or SDR, and both Montreal and Live Aid can be heard in LPCM Stereo or DTS-HD Master Audio as well as Atmos. Lastly, a commentary track with Brian May and Roger Taylor is available with Queen Rock Montreal.

Disc 2 Bonus: Live Aid Rehearsals
Bruce Padgett says
Do the visuals for “Flash” and “The Hero” not exist anymore? Or were those songs excluded from the Blu-ray on purpose to increase sales for the CD and vinyl packages?
Hmmm…
Joe Marchese says
It's long been thought that the footage for those two songs was discarded by the film production company (along with other outtakes from the raw concert footage), but Queen later discovered audio for both tracks in their own vault, hence the songs' inclusion on the audio-only formats:

Bruce Padgett says
Well, that’s reassuring actually. Looking forward to hearing both songs—as long as they’re not dynamically squashed, that is.
But that’s another topic for another time.
Thanks Joe!
John says
And still no reissue of Live Killers.
Sean O'Brien says
Was hoping the complete Live Aid audio would be included on the CD release after only a few songs were included on the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack. Do you know if the complete Live Aid audio is available anywhere in a physical format? Thanks.
Scott Bassin says
Do you know why Amazon only has the release that will not play in the U.S.? Thank you
