Belinda Carlisle, Decades Vol. 3: Cornucopia (Edsel) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Edsel continues its chronological collections of Belinda Carlisle's albums with this Cornucopia. The 4-CD book-style box starts off with two discs of mostly "orphaned" tracks released largely between 1987 and 2021: B-sides, non-album and greatest hits-exclusive cuts, covers of John Lennon ("Jealous Guy"), Carpenters ("Bless the Beasts and the Children"), and the Sex Pistols ("Submission"), and even an octet of recordings Carlisle and producer Gabe Lopez have put together for various projects released by Edsel. (One A-side has squeaked on these discs: the single mix of Carlisle's cover of Freda Payne's "Band of Gold," issued as a single from her debut Belinda with added background vocals from Payne herself.) Over the next two discs, the box flips mostly from B-sides to A-sides, offering two dozen unique edits and mixes of material largely drawn from her strongest period as a hitmaker from 1987 to 1993, including "Heaven is a Place on Earth," "I Get Weak," "Circle in the Sand," "Leave a Light On," "(We Want) The Same Thing," "Summer Rain," "Runaway Horses," "Live Your Life Be Free" and others. Cornucopia closes with 11 versions of these and other hits, recorded live in various concerts and issued as B-sides. While the first two Decades volumes have included oft-reissued albums only, this set is handy one-stop shopping for those interested only in Carlisle's "bonus material." Read more here.

Real Gone has the first U.S. reissue of Elaine Brown's Seize the Time - Black Panther Party from 1969. The influences on the album range from Bob Dylan's folk sound to classical music. After Seize the Time, Brown released a self-titled album on Motown subsidiary Black Forum in 1973. She led the Black Panther Party from 1974 to 1977, leaving over issues of sexism in the organization. Brown has remained a committed activist in the years since. Maurice White, Manifestation (Omnivore) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
The visionary founder and leader of EWF, the late Maurice White (1941-2016), only released one proper solo album in his lifetime (1985's Maurice White). Working on the R&B and Dance chart-topper "System of Survival" for EWF's album Touch the World, White inaugurated a friendship and collaboration with producer-songwriter Preston Glass. They continued to work together for almost three decades, producing 40 songs together. In 2019, three years after White's passing, Glass issued a dozen of their collaborative tracks as Manifestation. Today, Omnivore brings Manifestation to CD for the very first time, and to sweeten the pot, they're adding six previously unreleased tracks. This release (also available digitally) is released in cooperation with Platinum Garage Recordings and SoulMusic Records. Michael Graves has newly remastered the audio, and SoulMusic Records founder David Nathan, a friend of White's, has provided the new liner notes. Get the track listing here!

It's packaged with an 11" x 17.5" full-color foldout poster which includes new liner notes from Melanie's manager/music journalist Dave Thompson.

The Sun label reissues The Dixie Cups' 1964 Red Bird album Chapel of Love, a Jerry Leiber/Mike Stoller production primarily written by Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry (including a number of collaborations with Phil Spector). Tweet, Southern Hummingbird (Limited "Ruby Red" Vinyl Edition) (Real Gone Music) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
Real Gone reissues Tweet's debut album, Southern Hummingbird, from 2002. Tweet (whose birth name is Charlen Keys), joined the trio Sugah in the early 1990s and became part of Devante Swing's Swing Mob. It is there that she met Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot. Tweet would be a featured vocalist on the title track to Elliot's platinum selling 2001 album Miss E...So Addictive. Tweet then signed with Elliot's record label, Elektra and released her first single in January 2002. "Oops (Oh My)," produced by Timbaland and featuring Elliott on vocals would top the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart and hit No. 7 on the Hot 100. That track would be included on Tweet's debut album, Southern Hummingbird, released in April. It features production work by Timbaland, Elliott, Craig Brockman, Nisan Stewart, John "Jubu" Smith, and Tweet herself. Aside from Elliott, guest vocalists include Bilal and Ms. Jade. Elliott also contributed this edition's bonus track, "Big Spender," which samples the Cy Coleman/Dorothy Fields song from the 1966 musical Sweet Charity. Southern Hummingbird produced two more singles, "Boogie 2nite" and "Call Me," the latter hitting No. 31 on the Hot 100 and No. 9 on the R&B chart. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and has been certified Gold. Real Gone's vinyl reissue marks the first time the album has appeared in that format in the U.S. (it was previously only available on vinyl in Germany). A 2LP set, the reissue includes an insert featuring lyrics and comes on ruby red vinyl. It is limited to 1,000 copies.
Thomas Newman, American Beauty (Original Motion Picture Score) ("Blood Red Rose" Vinyl Edition) (Real Gone Music) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
The final item on Real's Gone's May slate is a new vinyl edition of Thomas Newman's score to the film American Beauty. The movie, directed by Sam Mendes, stars Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening, Thora Birch, Allison Janney, Peter Gallagher, Mena Suvari, Wes Bentley, and Chris Cooper. It was released in September 1999. The plot revolves around unhappy couple Lester and Carolyn Burnham (Spacey and Bening) and the problems which ensue when Lester becomes obsessed with his daughter's friend Angela (Suvari). The film became the best-reviewed film of 1999 and won numerous awards including three Golden Globes, six BAFTAs, and five Academy Awards (Best Picture, Actor, Director, Original Screenplay and Cinematography). Its score from 15-time Academy Award nominee Thomas Newman was first released on CD by Dreamworks Records in 1999. Real Gone reissued it on vinyl in 2019. For that release, they commissioned illustrator Matt Ryan Tobin to create new artwork for the gatefold. For this new edition, Real Gone is going back to the original album artwork. It comes on "blood red rose" vinyl.
Indigo Girls, Glitter and Doom: Original Soundtrack (PS Classics) (Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada)
The Indigo Girls provide the vividly evocative soundtrack to the new film Glitter & Doom, described by The New York Times as a "gay musical love-dramedy [which] calls attention to the emotional mountain range of Emily Saliers and Amy Ray's songwriting." The album includes "What We Wanna Be," the duo's first new song in four years, which was written expressly for the end credits of the new musical film.

Those HDH songs on Invictus are finally available on Spotify. That's the best news I've heard in a long time. And they sound great.

No hesitation- the Holland-Dozier-Holland deluxe CD boxset is in my Amazon.com cart, and I thank you for bringing this set to my notice!
Regarding The Dixie Cups Chapel Of Love album on CD, why aren't their 45 RPM released, non-LP singles included? Twelve tracks from their only album doesn't clock in very far. There's sufficient space to present their additional music here. I'm happy to know the music is in the original mono format, but this CD has so much extra room. Maybe some day...
