You'll never see them on a stage any time soon, but Oasis are putting out some unheard material on a new reissue of their debut album.
For its 30th anniversary, Definitely Maybe will be reissued on August 30 as a 2CD or 4LP set that pairs the remastered album with more than a dozen unreleased tracks. These primarily include the album's scrapped 1993 sessions at Monnow Valley Studio in Wales with producer David Batchelor and subsequent work at Cornwall's Sawmills studio. Creation Records co-founder Alan McGee and journalist Hamish MacBain have provided new liner notes, and the package features redesigned cover art on a slipcase.
Definitely Maybe introduced the world to the unpredictable power of guitarist/songwriter Noel Gallagher and his brother, singer Liam - here backed by guitarist Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs, bassist Paul "Guigsy" MacGuigan and drummer Tony McCarroll. Heralded as a bold step forward in British rock (in fact, a key crystallization of the Britpop movement) and consistently ranked as one of the nation's greatest albums, Definitely Maybe shot straight to No. 1 in England, spawning the Top 10 hits "Live Forever" and "Cigarettes & Alcohol." Oasis would ascend to even higher heights throughout the '90s, finally splitting in 2009 when the long-standing tension between the Gallaghers finally boiled over. (To this day, the devil-may-care Liam still occasionally takes shots at his brother on the social media site X. Noel, meanwhile, released his fourth album with band High Flying Birds in 2023.)
