Joni Mitchell, The Asylum Albums 1976-1980 (Rhino/Asylum)
5CD: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Rhino.com
6LP: Amazon U.S. / Amazon U.K. / Amazon Canada / Rhino.com
The Asylum Albums (1976-1980) arrives on 5 CDs, 6 LPs, and digital formats, completing the Asylum period of Mitchell's extraordinary career. Whereas 1972-1975 represented the peak of Mitchell's hitmaking years, 1976-1980 captured her in innovative, experimental mode. Following the tour for 1975's The Hissing of Summer Lawns, she embarked on a period of personal rediscovery and restless creativity which would manifest itself in the singular albums collected on this box set: Hejira (1976), Don Juan's Reckless Daughter (1977), Mingus (1979), and the live Shadows and Light (1980). All four albums have been newly remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog stereo master tapes, and they're housed in a box adorned with a portion of one of Mitchell's paintings. The full painting will be replicated as an insert in both the CD and LP packages. Read more here , and watch for our review soon!

Dress optional. Starting sometime in the evening. R.S.V.D.T." Indeed, the concert was listed on the club's marquee as "Mothers of Invention - Recording Session." But the intended album never materialized. Now, Frank's son Ahmet Zappa and "Vaultmeister" Joe Travers have finally brought the Whisky set to fruition, complete and newly remixed from hi-res digital transfers of the original one-inch, eight-track analog tapes by Craig Parker Adams. Larry Davis says
You forgot one...or maybe you had no idea...new album by elastic, eclectic NYC via Boston collective Lake Street Dive, called "Good Together", first album on Fantasy/Concord after a period on Nonesuch/Warners...based on performances on the recent Cayamo Cruise, this could be their best album yet...
Kenny says
They've been under the radar for years Larry. On first hearing "Good Together" sounds v.good. In Bridget Kearney they have one of the best songwriters around and singer Rachael Price has a voice to die for. Touring Europe early next year.
Larry Davis says
Prob cuz Warners never promoted em properly...with the new Fantasy deal, great new material and great writing, musicianship of the band and Rachel as a top singer, the pieces are all in place for LSD...they are also playing MSG later this year too...Mike Elizondo also produced the new album...it's really a great record!!
