Simple Plan - one of the foremost bands of the new millennium pop-punk explosion - will celebrate their more than two decades of music with a vinyl box set from Rhino.
Simple Plan Collection features all six of the band's studio albums on marbled color vinyl, along with a clear vinyl pressing of a new collection of rare tracks and even a double-sided single of two Christmas tunes (on seasonally appropriate green and red splatter vinyl). The box is strictly limited to 1500 copies, all signed by the band; they'll be available to order on the group's official site today (July 25) starting at 9 a.m. EST/6 a.m. PST. Individual pressings of the studio albums in different colorways will also be available at the same time, with even more alternate available through Alternative Press magazine, who will be releasing a commemorative issue in celebration of the band. All new vinyl is slated to ship in mid-September.
Hailing from Montreal, the Canadian rockers formed back in 1999: frontman Pierre Bouvier and drummer Chuck Corneau had formed the group Reset as teens; when the pair fell out, Corneau attended college before forming Simple Plan with high school friends Jeff Stinco and Sébastien Lefebvre (lead and rhythm guitar, respectively). A reconciliation with Bouvier led him to leave Reset for the new group, and his replacement, bassist David Desrosiers, only lasted with Reset six months before he rounded out the Simple Plan lineup. (He departed the band in 2020, leaving Bouvier to play bass on subsequent studio releases.)
Their combination of sophomoric humor and catchy hooks and riffs on early albums No Pads, No Helmets...Just Balls (2002) and Still Not Getting Any (2004) - the latter of which was a Top 5 album in America - and they quickly earned the attention of their peers: early single "I'd Do Anything" features harmony vocals from Blink-182 singer/bassist Mark Hoppus, while No Pads album cut "You Don't Mean Anything" featured backing vocals from Good Charlotte's Joel Madden. "I'm Just a Kid," "Addicted," "Perfect," "Welcome to My Life" and the maudlin "Untitled (How Could This Happen to Me?)" were all popular with early '00s scene kids, and they earned chart success in their homeland around the turn of the 2010s with singles "When I'm Gone," "Jet Lag" and "Summer Paradise" and collaborations with Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, British pop singer Natasha Bedingfield and others. They've earned a dedicated fan base around the globe (particularly South America and Australia), have been a fixture of 11 Warped Tour line-ups, wrote and performed the theme song to the popular animated reboot What's New, Scooby-Doo? and have raised money for most of their existence with an eponymous charitable foundation. Simple Plan Collection is the chronicle of a pop-punk band made good.
