More than 20 years after the first Harry Potter novel was adapted into a film, Rhino is planning a little magic of its own with a heavy-duty vinyl box set of soundtracks to all eight of the films.
Limited to 3000 copies worldwide on Rhino.com and other select retailers, Harry Potter: Original Motion Picture Soundtracks I-VII will feature the original album releases of the blockbuster franchise, as composed by John Williams, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper and Alexandre Desplat. The 16LP box set will be available in one of four box and vinyl colorways - red (Gryffindor), blue (Ravenclaw), yellow (Hufflepuff) and green (Slytherin) - each representing the fictional "houses" of the Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. (Hardcore collectors of film music may recall that Williams' soundtracks to the first three films - with additional unreleased material not featured here - were collected in a 7CD box set by La-La Land in 2018.)
As originally written by author J.K. Rowling and published between 1997 and 2007, the seven books in the Potter series - The Philosopher's Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, The Prisoner of Azkaban, The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince and The Deathly Hallows - were bona fide phenomena in the late '90s and throughout the '00s. Some 600 million copies have been sold worldwide, enchanting growing readers with the story of an ordinary British orphan who discovers he inherited magical powers from his late parents. Upon enrolling in Hogwarts and honing his skills casting spells and crafting potions, he finds the chosen family he'd yearned for all his life - and saves the wizarding world when Voldemort, the wicked sorcerer who murdered his parents, comes back for revenge.
With a deeply illustrative fantasy world that recalled Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, expectations were high when Warner Bros. secured the rights to the ongoing series for film adaptations. Working with a mix of seasoned British veterans and unknown young actors - including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint as Harry and his best friends Hermione and Ron - the creative teams of Potter did the near-impossible and pulled off a satisfying and successful fantasy film series that grossed over $7 billion worldwide and became the de facto visual language for the entire multimedia empire, including rides at multiple Universal Studios theme parks, a trio of moderately-received prequels and a sequel play that's run on the West End since 2016 and Broadway since 2018. (It's likely a combination of fond memories of the series and growing unease over some of Rowling's sociopolitical views - which seem to run counter to the series' messages of inclusivity - that make plans to remake the books as a streaming television series one of the less-anticipated projects out of Hollywood right now.)
Music became integral to the Potter film series from the beginning. Acclaimed composer John Williams used the same magical sensibilities of his work in the Star Wars saga, Home Alone and Hook when creating the themes to 2001's Harry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone for Home Alone director Chris Columbus. The celeste-led "Hedwig's Theme" remains one of the Maestro's best-known compositions, and a running motif for the wizarding world throughout all eight films. Williams returned for 2002's Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets (in which his themes were adapted and orchestrated by William Ross, while Williams juggled scores for Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and the Steven Spielberg films Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can) and 2004's Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban, which was directed by Alfonso Cuarón and praised for its maturing tonal shifts. Director Mike Newell and composer Patrick Doyle worked on 2005's Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, the first to feature Ralph Fiennes as the villainous Voldemort; David Yates took over directing duties for the rest of the series, recruiting composers Nicholas Hooper (for Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix (2007) and Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince (2009)) and Alexandre Desplat (for the two-part adaptation of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, released in 2010 and 2011).
The box set will start shipping November 29, in time for the holiday season, and can be ordered on Rhino's official store. Links and full track list are below.

More a comment for the publisher - why no CD set? Would order it in a heartbeat. Oh well.

I guess this is for vinyl collectors. Otherwise the LaLaLand set is the one you want.
