How excited are you for Pink Floyd's latest Immersion Edition, for the iconic double album The Wall? It's doubtful you're alone. The "Why Pink Floyd?" reissue campaign was one of 2011's highest-profile catalogue series, and - marbles aside - the Immersion Edition box sets of The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here were labors of love if ever any existed.
So, as a treat while you count the days down until the box's February 28 release, Pink Floyd's YouTube account has posted this sneak peek at some of the demos and unreleased live performances that are going to feature on the box.
You'll hear bits of live versions of "Comfortably Numb," "Hey You," "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" and "The Show Must Go On" from the band's 1980-1981 The Wall tour, as well as demos of "The Doctor" (which later became "Comfortably Numb"), "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 1)," "Sexual Revolution," "Teacher, Teacher," "Outside the Wall" and "It's Never Too Late."

Just wish there was a 5.1 mix of "The Wall".
Really don't care, but would love a multi-disc "Ummagumma."
I think this may be a little more interesting than the rather unimpressive WYWH "immersion", which aside from being an array of different audio versions, in terms of unreleased material didn't offer much more than the "experience" version with its live set.
Here at least, we have some possibly interesting extras with the release of the demos.
So even if I made a huge pass on the WYWH immersion, I may consider buying this.
But I cannot say that I'm dying to have it.
What I'd REALLY love to hear is some concerts from the ANIMALS era (the 1977 Pink Floyd – In The Flesh tour) and some outtakes or studio material from the period (if there's any, which I doubt...)
I am with Jake. I am buying this Immersion set because I am a Floyd fanatic but I am very disappointed that they couldn't give us a 5.1 mix. (It makes me realize the only reason we got a 5.1 mix with DSOTM and WYWH was because they were already done).
The concept of the Immersion sets were that they were supposed to be the definitive collection of each album. Everything worth having associated with that album. I thought they did this well with DSOTM and WYWH but the Wall Immersion set is lacking. Besides there not being a 5.1 mix, I've heard there was actually a movie made based on the album. Seems like a no brainer that the Immersion set should by definition have included the movie. Hell, they could have bumped the price up to $200 and made the Immersion set also include the debut of The Wall (movie) on bluray. As far as I am conerned The Wall Immersion set will have the least value added of any of the Immersion Sets. Perhaps if the live concert wasn't already released that would have been the added value I was looking for but I already have those cds.
put me down for Momentary Lapse of Reason Immersion...Division Bell Immersion...Animals Immersion and Meddle Immersion or maybe a definitive live retrospective ala Springsteen Live 75/85
Well, I can't say I'm thrilled about having to spend over $100 just to get 2 CDs worth of material that I didn't already have, but having said that, I will certainly be buying this. The Floyd have been notriously tight with their vaults so the fact that they're finally giving us a glimpse is something that I'm very psyched about, regardless of the cost.
As for a 5.1 mix, the band's engineer James Guthrie has stated that there will be a 5.1 mix of the album. He stated though that they found that the multitrack maters from The Wall sessions are in pretty bad shape and will take a significant amount of time to repair before a 5.1 mix could be done. EMI & the band didn't want to delay the Immersion box's release so the Wall 5.1 will come at a later date. I'd assume maybe as a separate SACD from Audio Fidelity as was done with Wish You Were Here.
And I of course am hoping that this isn't the last archival release we see from the band. Both Atom Heart Mother & Meddle were mixed for quadraphonic (although the Meddle quad was never officially released) and I'd love to see those quad mixes on DVD/Blue-ray as they did with Dark Side & Wish. Live material from the vaults would of coure be wonderful as well as more studio outtakes. Nick Mason has stated that they've recently discovered tapes of the band before the release of their first album when they were playing blues covers. Mason says they're considering releasing those. (Fingers are crossed!)
If nothing else, this is a band that was meant for 5.1. I'd love to see the rest of the band's catalog mixed for that. Also, Waters has been hinting at a DVD release of one of the 80/81 Wall concerts. The London concerts from that tour were filmed. It would be fantastic to have that.
